Hastings

It has become almost a tradition that we go to the coast in the last week before we leave England.  The students are done with their semester by then and have left and we have a bit more time.  You can see our coastal trip from 2017 here and here and the one from 2019 here.  On Thursday, we went to Hastings.  The Battle of Hastings took place north of the town of Hastings and we did not see the battlefield because the fee to see it is really high.

Es ist fast eine Tradition geworden, daß wir in der letzten Woche, bevor wir England verlassen, ans Meer fahren.  Die Studenten sind dann fertig und abgereist und wir haben ein bißchen weniger zu tun.  Unsere Ausflüge von 2017 und 2019 kann man hier und hier und hier sehen.  Am Donnerstag sind wir dann nach Hastings gefahren.  Die Schlacht von Hastings hat allerdings nördlich des Ortes stattgefunden und der Eintritt zu dem Schlachtfeld ist so hoch, daß wir dort nicht angehalten haben.

Auf der Strecke befindet sich ein Ort, wo sich die älteste Anwaltskanzlei der Welt befindet.

The museum houses this carved room called the "Durbar Hall" from 1886.

Das Museum hat einen geschnitzten Raum, der "Durbar Hall" heißt und von 1886 stammt.

There were lots of models of famous buildings in the collection.

Es gab dort auch viele Modelle von berühmten Gebäuden in der Sammlung.

And then there was an exhibition about "Grey Owl," a citizen of Hastings who moved to Canada and pretended he was a Native American.  He is quite a fascinating figure!  Here is a longer documentary about him.

Und dann gab es eine Ausstellung über "Grey Owl", einem Einwohner aus Hastings, der nach Kanada gezogen ist und sich dort als Indianer ausgegeben hat.  Er ist wirklich ein interessanter Mann!
