 Flora turned 10!

Diese Fotos habe ich kurz vor unserem Aufbruch zum Ballett gemacht.

 

There was no time to celebrate with the whole family today because of Jonathan's work and Charlotte's college class in the morning/early afternoon and then everybody at ballet in the afternoon and evening.  The last children came home by 9:00 p.m.  We will celebrate her birthday on Friday!

Heute hatten wir keine Zeit zum Feiern, weil Jonathan und Charlotte den ganzen Vormittag und Teile des Nachmittags zum Arbeiten und Lernen beim College waren und ab 15.00 Uhr Ballett stattfand.  Die letzten Kinder sind um 21.00 vom Ballett nach Hause gekommen.  Wir werden am Freitag ihren Geburtstag feiern können.  

This morning we found out that one of the girls I always drive to ballet on Tuesdays, had lost her home overnight in a fire!  Her laptop exploded and set her room and the house on fire.  She does not live in our village, but it was such a big fire that our fire truck had to help put it out, together with two other fire trucks.  It was a very sad day for everybody, but luckily, no lives were lost.  I did miss her in the car today, she is such a sweet girl. 

Heute morgen haben wir die schreckliche Nachricht erhalten, daß eines der Mädchen, das ich jeden Dienstag zum Ballett fahre, über Nacht ihr Haus in einem Feuer verloren hat.  Ihr Laptop ist in ihrem Zimmer explodiert und hat das ganze Haus in Brand gesteckt.  Sie wohnt nicht in unserem Dorf, aber das Feuer war schlimm genug, daß unsere Feuerwehr löschen helfen mußte.  Glücklicherweise ist niemand in den Flammen umgekommen, aber das Ganze ist schlimm genug.  Mir hat sie heute sehr im Auto gefehlt.  Sie ist ein so nettes Mädchen!    

Yesterday, I had a surprise visit of a long-time friend.  Charlotte used to clean house for her mother and to spend time with her, but the mother lives in an assistant-living place in Ohio now.  My friend lives in the Bahamas and seldom is in town.  (They still have a house here, though.)  Her two daughters and Jonathan and Charlotte were born in the same hospital in Indiana and her husband also went to the University of Notre Dame.  It was wonderful to have her here for a long chat, but it also prevented me from going through my First Holy Communion pictures to see which ones would be good ones to post.  So you will have to be patient.  But we did have a wonderful celebration with Godmother Ellen, Grandma, and Grandpa on Sunday. 

Gestern hatte ich einen Überraschungsbesuch von einer alten Freundin.  Charlotte hat früher für die Mutter dieser Freundin geputzt und ihr Gesellschaft geleistet.  Die Mutter ist aber jetzt in einem Altenpflegeheim in Ohio und meine Freundin lebt auf den Bahamas.  Sie und ihr Mann haben aber immer noch ein Haus hier im Ort.  Ihre beiden Töchter und Jonathan und Charlotte sind im selben Krankenhaus in Indiana geboren worden und ihr Mann ist auch zu Notre Dame gegangen und hat einen Doktor in Philosophie.  Es war so schön, sie wiederzusehen und sich mit ihr lange zu unterhalten.  Dadurch bin ich aber auch nicht dazu gekommen, die Fotos von der Erskommunion durchzusehen.  Also muß ich noch um Geduld bitten.  Wir hatten aber einen schöne Feier mit der Patin Ellen und den amerikanischen Großeltern.       
  

Blessed Imelda/Selige Imelda

Our new religious read-aloud book is Blessed Imelda, the patron saint of first communicants.  Flora's first holy communion will be at the end of May and this is the perfect story for her and us.

Unser neues religiöses Vorlesebuch ist ein Buch über die selige Imelda, die Patronin der Erstkommunionskinder.  Da Floras Erstkommunion näher rückt, ist das die perfekte Geschichte für sie und uns.  Leider gibt es dieses Buch nicht auf Deutsch.  Ich habe hier ein deutsches Buch gefunden, doch habe ich es nicht gelesen und weiß so auch nicht, ob es gut ist.      

First Holy Communion/Erstkommunion

Veronika had a beautiful day for her First Holy Communion on Sunday.  Sunshine and a very lovely Mass started out the day, followed by a delicious lunch at Letchworth Park.  Back home, we opened presents and had a light dinner.

Veronika hat einen wunderschönen Tag für ihre Erstkommunion am Sonntag gehabt.  Sonnenschein und eine feierliche Messe standen am Tagesanfang, danach gab es ein leckeres Mittagessen im Park Letchworth.  Zu Hause haben wir Geschenke aufgemacht und ein leichtes Abendessen gegessen.

 Veronika was enrolled in the Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and also received a rosary from the church.

Veronika hat das braune Skapulier Unserer Lieben Frau vom Berge Karmel und auch einen Rosenkranz von der Kirche erhalten.
