The last days have been wet and rainy. Today, we even had a thunderstorm.

We have been doing more routine things: going to the dentist, walking to the library to pick up books, studying, reading, teaching, etc.
Wir machen im Moment eher Alltagsdinge: Zahnarztbesuche, Büchereibesuche, um reservierte Bücher abzuholen, lernen, unterrichten usw.
The trees are getting leaves.

Some new books we got are Step Inside Homes Through History, Happy, Healthy Minds, and The School of Life: An Emotional Education (paid links). If you are not familiar with the children's books from "The School of Life," check them out here. I bought the philosophy book last time we were in London and think it is one of the best philosophy books for children. Recently, I was able to flip through the book on art and the one on architecture; both are superb.
Wir haben drei Bücher bei der Bücherei abgeholt, von denen jedoch keine deutschen Übersetzungen vorliegen.
"Our" bird Timmy died back home, which made us very sad. He had been so active just recently. Here is a video of him:

This is Timmy, our new family member. He was our neighbor's dear pet and quite shocked by her sudden death. We are taking care of him for now, until he will find a new home. He had not eaten much the last few days, but after coming to us, he has perked up, has been quite "talkative" and has been eating much more. We put him on our seasonal nature table because this is the only suitable place for him in our house. We have never had a bird and need to learn about how to take care of them now.
Das hier ist Timmy, unser neues "Familienmitglied". Er gehörte unserer verstorbenen Nachbarin und war nun ganz alleine. Wir kümmern uns um ihn, bis er ein neues Zuhause findet. Der Tod unserer Nachbarin war ein großer Schock für ihn: er hat aufgehört zu fressen. Seitdem er bei uns ist, geht es ihm besser, er hat viel gezwitschert und frißt wieder. Wir haben ihn auf unseren Jahreszeitentisch gestellt, weil wir sonst keinen vogelfreundlichen Platz haben. Wir hatten noch nie einen Vogel und müssen jetzt ein wenig über Vogelpflege lernen.
We have had some more setbacks with our ongoing projects: The workers have not been able to come back so far and there was water in the basement after a heavy rain. Also, on Friday, my laptop informed me, that it needed to go back onto campus to the Helpdesk again because Word had not been installed correctly. So back it went, but now it seems to be okay. The repaired washer worked for half a cycle and then decided to indicate that there was an error and stopped working. So we took the laundry out and finished that load at the laundromat in the evening after coming home from Nutcracker rehearsal. We are good customers there now. The repairman will come back on Tuesday.
Unsere verschiedenen Projekte hier im Moment klappen alle nicht so gut. Die Arbeiter für die Garage hatten noch keine Zeit, wieder zu kommen. Nach einem heftigen Regen hatten wir wieder Wasser im Keller. Am Freitag hat mir mein Laptop gesagt, daß er wieder zum College zurück müsse, weil das Programm Word nicht funktionierte. Nach einem Morgen dort scheint er jetzt aber wirklich zu funktionieren. Die reparierte Waschmaschine hat leider wieder aufgehört repariert zu sein. Sie hat mitten beim Waschen gesagt, daß etwas nicht stimme. Also haben wir die Wäsche rausgenommen und nach der Nußknackerprober im Waschsalon gewaschen. Der verdient jetzt ziemlich viel Geld von uns. Am Dienstag kommt der Handwerker zurück, um nachzuschauen, was noch falsch ist.
Flora is doing a new main lesson now: Physics! We started with acoustics today and, like her siblings when they were in grade 6, she had the task to walk through the house and find all musical instruments and play them while paying attention to how the sound is being produced.
Flora macht eine neue Hauptepoche: Physik! Wir haben mit Akustik angefangen und so wie ihre älteren Geschwister, als sie in der sechsten Klasse waren, durfte sie durchs Haus gehen und alle Musikinstrumente finden und ausprobieren. Dabei mußte sie darauf achten, wie der Klang entsteht.

And this afternoon, we went to get pumpkins for Halloween.
Und heute nachmittag haben wir Kürbisse für Halloween gekauft.
I also chatted with a neighbor and she is having washing-machine woes too. However, her husband is trying to repair the machine. It is good to know that I am not the only one with problems like that.
Ich habe mich auch mit einer anderen Nachbarin unterhalten. Ihre Waschmaschine ist auch kaputt. Es ist gut zu wissen, daß ich nicht die einzige bin. Allerdings versucht ihr Mann, die Maschine zu reparieren.
And the two "big" children? Charlotte is having lots of rehearsals for Swan Lake and will start a second student job in the political science department. Her first job is in the dance department.
Und die beiden "Großen"? Charlotte hat viele Proben für Schwanensee. Sie fängt bald auch einen zweiten Studentenjob an, der in Politikwissenschaft ist. Ihr Hauptjob ist in Tanz (mit diesen Jobs verdient sie sich ein bißchen Geld).
Jonathan went to the vigil Mass today because he is flying to Florida for a conference tomorrow. The German parish does not have a vigil Mass and so he went to St. Matthew's Cathedral again, which he attended during his summer time at the Hertog Foundation. He sent me this video.
Jonathan war heute bei der Vorabendmesse, weil er morgen zu einer Konferenz nach Florida fliegt. Die deutsche Gemeinde, wo er oft sonntags hingeht, hat keine Vorabendmessen und daher war er wieder in der Matthäus Kathedrale.
