The Robe/Das Gewand

We are reading The Robe for Lent right now.  It also fits well with Roman history.  The writing style is a bit pompous, but the older children like the plot.

Wir lesen im Moment Das Gewand für die Fastenzeit.  Es erzählt von der Kreuzigung Jesu, und was mit seinem Gewand passiert, um das die Soldaten würfeln.  Die Sprache ist ein bißchen schwülstig, aber die Handlung spannend.

Jesus of Nazareth/Jesus von Nazareth

This Lent Jonathan, Charlotte, and I are watching the movie Jesus of Nazareth. I watched it the first time when I was eleven and was staying at my uncle's for a few days. I was so moved that I watched it again when it was on TV a few years later. Then, as an exchange-student in Canada, I had another chance to see it, this time in English.

Dieses Jahr in der Fastenzeit schauen Jonthan, Charlotte und ich mir den Film Jesus von Nazareth an.  Ich habe diesen Film zum ersten Mal bei meinem Onkel und meiner Tante im Fernsehen gesehen, als ich elf war.  Der Film hat mich so bewegt, daß ich ihn ein paar Jahre später wieder im Fernsehen gesehen habe und dann als Austauschschülerin zum dritten Mal in Kanada, diesmal auf Englisch.  

I'm so happy that I can share it now with my older children, our library had it on DVD, and what better time to watch it than Lent!  Besides, Jonathan focuses on Jesus Christ in religion this year (he is reading Through Christ Our Lord), so this film is perfect for his studies.  This is not a film to watch with little children, but it is wonderful for older ones (teenagers), especially once you have covered the Romans.

Es ist so schön, daß ich diesen Film nun mit meinen älteren Kindern sehen kann, unsere Bibliothek hat ihn auf DVD, und die Fastenzeit bietet sich dafür bestens an.  Außerdem ist Jonathans Hauptthema für Religion dieses Jahr Jesus Christus, so daß dieser Film seine Lektüre bereichert.  Dieser Film ist nicht für kleine Kinder geeignet, aber wunderbar für ältere (Teenager), besonders, wenn man auch die Römer schon behandelt hat.  

   

Charlotte is doing much better today, the chiropractor called to check on her, she is still somewhat stiff, though, so she had to cancel her cleaning time with Mrs. M. tomorrow.  

Charlotte geht es heute viel besser, der Chiropraktiker hat sich auch nach ihr erkundigt, sie ist aber noch etwas steif und deshalb mußte sie den Putztermin bei Frau M. für morgen absagen.  

Tomorrow is already Holy Thursday, we will have to drive to a different village for Mass tomorrow, and on Friday we will drive again to another village for Good Friday.  The Easter Vigil will be in our church Saturday evening, which will be nice.  

Morgen ist schon Gründonnerstag, wir müssen in ein anderes Dorf für die Messe fahren und für Karfreitag wieder in ein anderes.  Die Osternachtsmesse ist aber in unserer Kirche hier, was dann schön sein wird.  

I also have quite a few Easter preparations to finish, mainly baking and cooking, but we hope to do one more craft.  We did make three Easter candles today, I'll post a picture tomorrow.  

Ich muß noch eine Menge für Ostern vorbereiten, vor allen Dingen Backen und Kochen, aber ich hoffe auch noch mit den Kindern zu basteln.  Heute haben wir schon mal drei Osterkerzen gemacht.  Foto folgt.
