Neue Galerie in New York

Jonathan visited the Neue Galerie to see their special exhibition about Paula Modersohn-Becker.  She painted many of her paintings in Worpswede.  We have visited Worpswede several times.  Here you can see our visit from 2017 when we also visited Paula Modersohn-Becker's grave.  

Jonathan war in der Neuen Galerie in New York um die Sonderausstellung über Paula Modersohn-Becker zu sehen.  Paula Modersohn-Becker hat in Worpswede gelebt und gemalt.  Wir waren schon mehrere Male in Worpswede und haben 2017 ihr Grab besucht.  Hier sind unsere Fotos davon.

• Jonathan is almost done with his work at the law firm's office in NYC.  He asked me for my spaghetti sauce recipe because all the young men and women in his dorm will be doing some cooking together.  He will be coming home soon, but leave again to do a Hertog Foundation seminar in D.C.
• Miriam and Peter are in Ohio, participating in a different Hildebrand Project.  It is going well.  Miriam has also had a chance to visit with her former roommate Nancy, who lives in the Steubenville area because her father works at Franciscan University.
• Veronika registered for an advanced French class in the fall with Homeschool Connections.  She really likes the teacher and wants to keep up her French.
• I am almost done with writing up Flora's IHIP for the coming school year.  It is due by August 15th.  Now I have to move on to some German things for the next semester.
• Flora is doing all art classes the area offers.  Today she made a notebook at the library and tomorrow we will driver her to another art class, further south, with a teacher she has taken many summer art classes with.
• We had a storm come through today, many people lost power, but we did not.  At least, it is a bit cooler now.
• A cute picture book we read a few days ago is Goldfish on Vacation (paid link).  It is based on a true story of the Hamilton Fountain in New York City.

• Jonathan ist fast mit seiner Sommerarbeit für die Anwaltskanzlei in New York fertig.  Neulich hat er mich nach dem Rezept meiner Spaghettisoße gefragt, weil alle jungen Leute in seinem Wohnheim zusammen kochen wollen.  Bald kommt er kurz nach Hause, um dann wieder nach Washington zu fliegen, um an einem Seminar der Hertog Stiftung teilzunehmen.
• Miriam und Peter sind in Ohio und nehmen an einem weiteren Hildebrand Projekt teil.  Es ist sehr interessant.  Miriam hat auch ihre Mitbewohnerin von Magdalen College sehen können, weil sie in der Nähe von Steubenville wohnt und ihr Vater bei Franciscan University arbeitet.  
• Veronika hat sich für einen fortgeschrittenen Französischkurs (online) angemeldet.  Sie hat mit der Lehrerin schon mehrere Kurse gemacht und möchte auch im Herbst weiter mit Französisch machen.
• Ich habe fast meinen Unterrichtsplan für Flora für das nächste Schuljahr fertig.  Bis zum 15. August muß ich ihn bei der Schulbehörde einreichen.  Jetzt muß ich mich meinen Deutschseminaren für das nächste Semester widmen.
• Flora macht alle Sommerkunstkurse in der Gegend, die sie finden kann.  Sie sind alle kostenlos und machen ihr großen Spaß.  Heute hat sie ein Notizbuch in der Bücherei hergestellt und morgen macht sie ein Projekt mit der Kunstlehrerin, mit der sie schon mehrere Sommer lang Kunst gemacht hat.  Dafür müssen wir aber etwas weiter fahren.
• Heute gab es ein großes Unwetter mit Stromausfall, aber uns ist der Strom erhalten geblieben.  Wenigstens ist es jetzt ein bißchen kühler.
• Wir haben ein hübsches Bilderbuch über den Hamilton Brunnen in New York gelesen.

I guess all the practice at Grandma and Grandpa's when he was young has paid off!  Jonathan has joined the circus in NYC.  Bravo!

Anscheinend haben sich all die akrobatischen Übungen bei den amerikanischen Großeltern, als Jonathan noch ein kleiner Junge war, bewährt!  Jonathan ist jetzt in New York beim Zirkus. Bravo!

Flora had a wonderful time camping.  They got lucky with the rain: It stopped last night and did not rain again.  They had a bonfire, went hiking, opened presents, and did some painting.

Flora ist wieder wohlbehalten zu Hause angekommen.  Sie haben ein Lagerfeuer gemacht, waren Wandern, haben Geschenke aufgemacht und gemalt.  Es hat auch gar nicht mehr geregnet.  Gestern abend hat es aufgehört.

Just Jonathan was missing because he was on his way to NYC.

Nur Jonathan hat gefehlt, weil er schon auf dem Weg nach New York war.

I have not taken many pictures because we have been occupied with homeschooling, ballet, doing laundry, mending, ironing, doing laundry, mending, ironing, trying to put Miriam's and Jonathan's things away, and packing the things Jonathan needs for his summer job in NYC.  He is staying at a dorm for Catholic graduate students.  But I did take this picture of our Friday meal: roasted carrots and potatoes, corn with asparagus, and fresh salmon.  It was very good.

Ich habe in den letzten Tagen kaum fotografiert, weil wir mit Homeschooling, Ballett, Wäsche, Stopfen und Flicken, Bügeln und wieder Wäsche, Stopfen und Flicken, Bügeln, dem Wegräumen von Miriams und Jonathans Habseligkeiten und dann dem Packen von Jonathans Habseligkeiten für seinen Sommerjob in einer Anwaltskanzlei in New York beschäftigt waren.  Er wohnt in einem Studentenwohnheim für katholische Studenten.  Doch unser Mittagessen von Freitag habe ich fotografiert: gebackene Möhren und Kartoffeln, Spargel mit Mais und frischer Lachs.  Es war sehr lecker.

And for supper I baked pizza from scratch.

Our pastor had his 25th jubilee as a priest today.  There were about 100 people attending a brunch after church.

Unser Pfarrer hatte heute sein 25. Priesterjubiläum.  Nach der Kirche gab es Brunch und ca. 100 Leute waren dabei.

The trees are still standing in the city, in spite of the earthquake this morning.  We did not feel it here, but Charlotte said her walls were quaking.

Die Bäume stehen noch in New York City; trotz des Erdbebens.  Wir haben es hier nicht gespürt, aber bei Charlotte haben die Wände gezittert.

Charlotte has been busy with rehearsals for her performance tomorrow.

Flora's new main lesson is world geography.  We learned about Australia and she made Australian Pikelets today.

Floras neue Hauptepoche ist Erdkunde.  Wir erkunden weitere Länder.  Gestern und heute haben wir uns mit Australien beschäftigt und Flora hat australische Pfannkuchen gebacken.

Poor Veronika had to sit through her five hour pre-licensing course.  We have not been able to find a live class in our area (either they got canceled or take place during ballet) and so we had to pick an online one.  She did not even get a break for lunch!

Die arme Veronika mußte ihre fünfstündige Veranstaltung machen, die man vor der Fahrprüfung absolvieren mußte.  Wir haben leider keine Klasse hier in der Gegend gefunden (entweder sind sie abgesagt worden oder sie finden während der Ballettzeit statt).  Also mußte sie sich für einen online Kurs anmelden.  Sie hat noch nicht einmal eine Mittagspause bekommen!

Hier (Ende des Textes) singt sie im Chor an Ostern.

Charlotte is packing to go to NYC for a few days.  She has been invited to dance in a show.  Veronika has developed an eye infection and had to go to an urgent care place.  Now she has antibacterial and antihistamine eye drops.  Flora had no acting at the Academy (Easter break), but she did have her online acting class.  We have a flood/snow warning for the next few days.  Hopefully, it won't be too bad.  I cannot think of much more tonight because it is so late 😀.

Charlotte packt, um ein paar Tage nach New York zu fahren.  Sie tanzt am Wochenende dort bei einer Ballettaufführung mit.  Veronika hat eine Augenentzündung und mußte zur Notfallklinik.  Jetzt bekommt sie antibiotische Augentropfen (und Allergieaugentropfen).  Flora hatte heute keine Theaterklasse bei der Akademie, weil sie dort Osterferien haben.  Aber ihre online Theaterklasse hat stattgefunden.  Wir haben im Moment eine Schnee/Flutwarnung.  Hoffentlich wird es nicht zu schlimm.  Mehr fällt mir so spät nicht mehr ein 😀.
