Pizza Outside/Pizza draußem

Miriam came home earlier tonight from her work at the bookstore.  I had baked pizza with kale from our garden.  We ate it outside, and Leo kept us company.

Miriam ist heute abend früher von ihrer Arbeit im Buchladen nach Hause gekommen.  Ich habe Pizza mit Grünkohl aus eigenem Anbau gebacken.  Die haben wir dann draußen gegessen, während Leo uns Gesellschaft geleistet hat.

Our clematis is blooming profusely.

Unsere Klematis blüht dieses Jahr sehr stark.

Today is "Don't Step on a Bee Day," and we read the picture book (paid link) above.  

Heute ist der Tag, an dem man "nicht auf eine Biene treten soll", und daher haben wir ein Bilderbuch über Bienen gelesen. Der deutsche Titel ist Wie Bienen leben: Matilda erzählt.

Our herbs are also doing well.

Unsere Kräuter wachsen auch sehr gut.

Handwork Exhibition/Handarbeitsausstellung

The girls and I went to a handwork (knitting and crocheting) exhibition in town.

Die Mädchen und ich waren bei einer Handarbeitsausstellung (stricken und häkeln) hier im Dorf.

Today, Veronika helped Flora with a Pythagoras math assignment that needed to be done outside.

Heute hat Veronika Flora bei einer Matheaufgabe über Pythagoras, die draußen gemacht werden mußte, geholfen.

Flora has planted some herbs at our front door.

On his way home, Jonathan took pictures of Galeton.

Auf seiner Nachhausefahrt hat Jonathan Galeton in Pennsylvanien fotografiert.

We later read that it used to be a busy town:

In the early 1900s, a thriving lumber industry had transformed Galeton into the biggest city in Potter County. More than 30 trains stopped in Galeton each day, carrying people and goods across America. Shops, hotels, restaurants, and theaters crowded Main Street where you now stand, humming with activity.

New Mailbox and Art Show/Neuer Briefkasten und Kunstausstellung

The post of our mailbox had rusted through and the mailbox itself was not in great shape either.  Today Peter replaced it.

Der Pfosten, auf dem unser Briefkasten ruhte, ist durchgerostet und der Briefkasten selbst war auch nicht mehr so heile.  Heute hat Peter ihn ersetzt.

I had baked some cookies this morning and as you can see, they disappeared fast.

Heute morgen habe ich Kekse gebacken und wie man sehen kann, waren sie schnell verschwunden.

Flora's art teacher had her annual art show today, showing what her students had painted over the year.  Flora only had two paintings in the show because we were gone for such a long time.

Floras Kunstlehrerin hatte heute die Ausstellung der Bilder, die ihre Zöglinge dieses Jahr gemalt haben.  Flora hatte nur zwei Bilder in der Ausstellung, weil wir ja nicht so lange hier waren.

It has not been very warm so far, but I am sure this will change.  Unfortunately, our car's air-conditioning is not working anymore and so far it looks like it will be too costly to repair.  I hope it will not get too hot this summer.  

Bisher ist es noch nicht so warm gewesen, aber das wird sich bestimmt bald ändern.  Leider funktioniert die Klimaanlage im Auto nicht mehr und eine Reparatur ist wohl zu teuer dafür.  Hoffentlich wird es nicht zu heiß!
