Geometry/Geometrie

Our new main lesson is geometry.
Unsere neue Hauptepoche ist Geometrie.

We are doing form drawing (paid link).
Wir machen Formenzeichnen.

This is our read-aloud book.  I bought it in London :).
Dieses Buch lese ich vor.  Ich habe es in London gekauft :).

And we are working through the old version of the RightStart Math geometry program.  Already Jonathan completed this program and loved it.  You cannot buy the lessons of the first edition anymore, but the worksheets are still available.

Of course, Flora is also doing a year-long program in geometry.  We had planned on using Teaching Textbooks Geometry, but it was not a good fit for her.  She had done well with their pre-algebra and algebra 1, but the geometry course is very different.  We now switched to Denison Geometry, and it is working out beautifully.

Natürlich macht Flora auch ein ganzjähriges Geometrieprogramm.  In der 10. Klasse lernt man in den USA höhere Geometrie.

Peter took these first two pictures of the cormorants and Flora.

Veronika went to San Diego on Saturday, together with one of her roommates and her professor.  This fig tree reminded her of the one we saw in Santa Paula in 2015.

Here is our cake from Sunday.
Hier ist unser Sonntagskuchen.

Flora and I also started watching The Reluctant Saint: The Story of St. Joseph Cupertino on Sunday.  We have a subscription to formed.org.

Miriam shared these pictures from Boston and New Hampshire.  They had a field trip to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

Boxes for Katje

Boxes for Katje (paid link) is a heartwarming story about an American village helping a Dutch village in 1945 by sending care packages.  Right after WWII, people did not have enough to eat, and the winter was very severe.  This book shows how those "boxes" made a difference.

After World War II there is little left in Katje's town of Olst in Holland. Her family, like most Dutch families, must patch their old worn clothing and go without everyday things like soap and milk. Then one spring morning when the tulips bloom "thick and bright," Postman Kleinhoonte pedals his bicycle down Katje's street to deliver a mysterious box – a box from America! Full of soap, socks, and chocolate, the box has been sent by Rosie, an American girl from Mayfield, Indiana. Her package is part of a goodwill effort to help the people of Europe. What's inside so delights Katje that she sends off a letter of thanks – beginning an exchange that swells with so many surprises that the girls, as well as their townspeople, will never be the same.  (Amazon)
