This week is National German Week and today is German Unity Day. I hung up the poster above in my office/classroom building. The AATG has some wonderful teaching aids for the week and they are all free!
Diese Woche ist in Amerika eine nationale deutsche Woche. Ich habe das Poster, das man oben sehen kann, in unser Büro-/Seminargebäude gehängt. Die AATG (eine Vereinigung für Deutschlehrer und Deutschprofessoren) hat ganz tolle Materialien für diese Woche, die Mitglieder kostenlos beziehen können.

We are almost done with our first main lesson block. Veronika learned a lot about the Middle Ages and Islam. We watched two movies on Islam (Islamic Art, Seven Wonders of the Muslim World) and found some really interesting picture books. One is about the Grand Mosque in Paris that helped to hide Jews during WWII. It is called The Grand Mosque of Paris. We also read about Hildegard of Bingen and Charlemagne.
Wir sind fast mit unsererm ersten Hauptepochenblock fertig. Veronika hat viel über das Mittelalter und den Islam gelernt. Wir haben zwei sehr schöne Filme über den Islam gesehen. Außerdem haben wir ein schönes Bilderbuch über die Moschee in Paris gefunden. Es wird darin beschrieben, wie die Gläubigen dort den Juden im 2. Weltkrieg geholfen haben. Dazu haben wir uns mit Hildegard von Bingen und Karl dem Großen beschäftigt.

Flora learned a lot about NYS. We read Children of the Longhouse and she loved it.
Flora hat viel über New York gelernt. Wir haben auch einen Kinderroman über die Irokesen gelesen, den Flora ganz toll fand.
Miriam and I are working on finishing up her Ancient History studies from last year. She is making a timeline book, but I forgot to take pictures.
Miriam und ich sind dabei, ihre Studien zur Geschichte des Altertums zu Ende zu bringen. Wir haben damit letztes Schuljahr angefangen. Sie macht ein Zeitenstrahlbuch, aber ich habe vergessen, das zu fotografieren.
We had a busy day today. We did our schoolwork in the morning, I roasted a chicken for lunch, and now the bones are in the slow cooker to make delicious chicken broth. Flora had a violin lesson (during that time I went to the library and the gas station to get gas) and then we all drove to our dance lessons. Tonight, we did some more schoolwork and I did some preparation for my German 101 class tomorrow. Jonathan also e-mailed me with some question about a German book he needs for an independent study course. It is about integration of foreigners in Europe. Charlotte also writes e-mails. The other day she sent pictures of the zoo. She and her roommate spent some time there on the weekend. That's it for now. I feel as tired as Julius in the picture below.
Heute war wieder viel los. Wir haben am Vormittag unsere Schularbeit gemacht, dann habe ich zum Mittagessen ein Huhn gegrillt. Die Knochen davon kochen jetzt über Nacht im Schongarer mit Wasser, so daß ich morgen eine schöne Hühnerbrühe habe. Nachmittags hatte Flora Geigenstunde (während sie bei Frau Thomas war, habe ich Bücher in der Bücherei abgeholt und getankt). Dann mußten wir alle zum Ballett fahren. Heute abend haben wir weiter Schule gemacht und ich habe mein Deutschseminar vorbereitet. Jonathan hatte dann eine Frage zu einem deutschen Buch, das er für ein Forschungsprojekt liest. Das Buch heißt Klartext zur Integration. Charlotte schreibt auch täglich. Neulich war sie mit ihrer Mitbewohnerin im Zoo und hat viele Fotos geschickt. Das reicht für heute. Jetzt fühle ich mich so katzenmüde wie Julius auf diesem Foto.
