Manners, Sunspots, Handwork/Umgangsformen, Sonnenflecken und Handarbeit

Here I am again.  This time with pictures of some other subjects we have been working on.  Veronika and Flora are reading this cute book about manners right now.

Hier bin ich wieder.  Dieses Mal mit Fotos von ein paar anderen Dingen, die wir im Moment machen.  Veronika und Flora lesen dieses nette Bilderbuch über Umgangsformen.

Veronika and I tried to find sunspots by using the projection method.  Yesterday, it did not work, bit today we had more luck.  We found two sunspots.

Dann haben Veronika und ich für unsere Wetterstudien Sonnenflecken auf ein Blatt projekziert.  Gestern wollte es erst nicht klappen, aber heute ging es dann.  Wir haben zwei kleine schwarze Flecken sehen können!

There are two small black dots here that are sunspots, but it was hard to take a picture of them.

Hier sind zwei schwarze Punkte zu sehen, aber man konnte sie schlecht fotografieren.

Flora made a Bavarian cheese-egg recipe for her German geography studies.

Flora hat ein bayrisches Käse-Eier Rezept für ihre deutschen Erdkundestudien gemacht.

Veronika is working on copper embossing.

Veronika macht ein Kupferbild.

Flora is sewing some felt cats.

While the girls are doing handwork, I am reading a picture book about Jesus' cross (yesterday was the Exaltation of the Cross) and a chapter from German history to them.

Während die Mädchen Handarbeiten machen, lese ich ein Bilderbuch über das Kreuz von Jesus vor (gestern war das Fest der Kreuzerhöhung) und auch ein Kapitel aus der deutschen Geschichte.

And we have had art lessons (Flora), more Hebrew (Veronika), more German (Eva), and ballet (Veronika and Flora).  Peter drove away to present a paper at a conference.

Und es gab Kunstunterricht (Flora), mehr Hebräisch (Veronika), mehr Deutsch (Eva) und Ballett (Veronika und Flora).  Peter ist weggefahren, um einen Vortrag bei einer Konferenz zu halten.

Miriam and her college's choir sang the national anthem tonight at a baseball game in Manchester.

Miriam hat mit dem Collegechor die Nationalhymne bei einem Baseballspiel in Manchester gesungen.

Living Math and More/Lebendige Mathematik und mehr

Charlotte finished building tracks and adding up all the mixed fractions.  Jonathan started making a clay bowl.  He will decorate it with Ancient Greek motifs. 

Miriam drew a picture of a robin and listened to a story about Sammy Jay, a bluejay that steals eggs.  We also started reading in 365 Manners Kids Should Know: Games, Activities, and Other Fun Ways to Help Children Learn Etiquette again.  We get this book out periodically and read about a titbit of manners every day. 

Jonathan and Miriam also read some "living math books" today.  Jonathan read The Dot and the Line: A Romance in Lower Mathematics and Miriam worked with tangrams and the book Grandfather Tang's Story. 

Veronika and Flora spent some time playing in Miriam's bed.  They had lots of fun. 

The afternoon was spent with Artistic Pursuits4-6 and  Artistic Pursuits Grades K-3 Book 1 and a short trip to the Amish farm to get some more milk. 

Charlotte hat heute die Schienen zu Ende verlegt und die gesamte Schienenstrecke mit gemischten Brüchen zusammengezählt.  Jonathan hat eine Tonschale gemacht.  Er wird sie mit altgriechischen Motiven dekorieren.  Miriam hat ein amerikanisches Rotkehlchen gemalt.  Ich habe ihr auch eine Geschichte von Sammy Jay vorgelesen.  Sammy Jay ist ein Blauhäher, der Eier stiehlt. 

Wir haben auch wieder ein Benimmbuch herausgeholt, in dem wir jeden Tag einen kleinen Eintrag über gute Manieren lesen.  Jonathan und Miriam haben beide "lebendige Mathebücher" gelesen.  Jonathans heißt The Dot and the Line: A Romance in Lower Mathematics und Miriam hat mit Tangrams Bilder aus Grandfather Tang's Story nachgebaut.  Veronika und Flora haben eifrig in Miriams Bett gespielt.  Nachmittags haben die Kinder an Artistic Pursuits gearbeitet.  Außerdem haben wir noch Milch beim Bauernhof geholt.
