More Cleaning Up/Mehr Aufräumen

I am going to empty each closet in the house these coming weeks.  We need more space and I am determined to get rid of books, toys, clothing, and stuff we do not need anymore.  We neither have an attic nor a basement, so this small house cannot hold all our things anymore.  Of course this also involves cleaning.  Today, I went through all our children's magazines.  Those magazines, the children did not want anymore, I took to the public library and to the local Wesleyan church library.  In the public library, I ran into a young woman from our church.  She will get all our small sizes of children's clothing.  She has two small children herself and is happy to get those small sizes.  I have also started to go through all books: one pile to keep, one pile to donate to the library, and one pile to list at Amazon and PaperBack Swap.  There is so much dust on those bookshelves behind the books!  Actually, our house looks like we are going to move out, but that is just a temporary state.

I just got an e-mail that you can preorder Father Barron's Pivotal Players.  We really liked his Catholicism series.  Here is a short preview of the new series. You can find more previews of different parts here.  A part of this series was filmed at Notre Dame!

Father Barron/Pfarrer Barron

What a surprise!  Father Barron has been appointed auxiliary bishop of the Los Angeles diocese.  Jonathan and I really enjoyed his Catholicism series.

Advent Reflections with Father Barron

Again, I have signed up for Father Barron's Advent reflections.  Below you can read what I received today.

Advent Day 21 - Expanding Our Heart
Sometimes we are made to wait because we are not yet adequately prepared to receive what God wants to give us. In his remarkable letter to Proba, Saint Augustine argued that the purpose of unanswered prayer is to force expansion of the heart. When we don't get what we want, we begin to want it more and more, with ever greater insistency, until our souls are on fire with the desire for it. Sometimes it is only a sufficiently expanded and inflamed heart that can take in what God intends to give.

What would happen to us if we received, immediately and on our own terms, everything we wanted? We might be satisfied in a superficial way, but we wouldn't begin to appreciate the preciousness of the gifts. After all, the Israelites had to wait thousands of years before they were ready to receive God's greatest gift.

Even if we are on the right track and even if we desire with sufficient intensity what God wants to give, we still might not be ready to integrate a particular grace into our lives or to handle the implications of it.

How badly do you want Christ this Advent?
