New Main Lessons/Neue Hauptepochen

Both girls have started on their new main lessons: World History.  Veronika is concentrating on the history of the 20th century and Flora is wrapping up the Middle Ages and moving on to the Renaissance.  Veronika and I watched an old documentary on the Suez Canal (our first lesson today was on imperialism).  She then drew a map of Africa into her main lesson book.  Flora learned about the Bayeux Tapestry and started coloring a part of it.  We also watched an animated version of it (see below).  Flora's new read-aloud is The Prince and the Pauper.  

Beide Mädchen haben mit neuen Hauptepochen angefangen: Geschichte.  Veronika beschäftigt sich mit der Geschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts und Flora macht noch die letzten Kapitel des Mittelalters, bevor wir zur Renaissance übergehen.  Mit Veronika habe ich einen alten Schulfilm über den Suezkanal gesehen.  Unsere erste Lektion war über Imperialismus und Veronika hat eine Afrikakarte in ihr Heft gezeichnet.  Flora hat sich mit dem Teppich von Bayeux beschäftigt und angefangen, eine Szene daraus anzumalen.  Wir haben diese interessante Fassung dazu gesehen:

Miracle Plant/Wunderpflanze

I had put my amaryllis into the basement earlier this year so that it would be ready to bloom in December.  When I went to the basement today to get some pots for a big repotting session I had with myself, I found the amaryllis blooming!  It had not received water and light for many many months.  Now I put it on my kitchen windowsill.  Maybe it will grow straight with some water and light.  

Ich hatte meinen Ritterstern im Frühjahr in den Keller gebracht, damit er sich bis Weihnachten ausruhen konnte und dann wollte ich ihn wieder zum Blühen bekommen.  Er ist mir aber zuvor gekommen.  Als ich heute im Keller nach Blumentöpfen gesucht habe (weil ich heute viele, viele Pflanzen umgetopft habe), lächelte mich ein blühender Ritterstern an.  Er hatte die ganze Zeit weder Licht noch Wasser und ist doch ausgetrieben.  Jetzt steht er auf der Küchenfensterbank.  Vielleicht wächst er mit ein wenig Wasser und Licht in die Höhe.  

Flora found this interesting bug.  We have to ask our nature guide Conrad what it is.  

Flora hat diesen interessanten Käfer gefunden.  Vielleicht weiß unser Naturkundeführer Conrad, was das ist.  Wir müssen ihn mal fragen.  

Veronika's test results for her throat came back positive for some rare form of strep (group C).  Now she needs to take antibiotics for 10 days.  It is contagious, so we all hope that we will not get it.  If we have not gotten sick by Monday, we probably will not get it.  

Veronikas Testergebnisse für ihren Hals sind positiv zurückgekommen.  Sie hat eine ganz seltene Streptokokken Entzündung (Gruppe C).  Jetzt muß sie 10 Tage Antibiotika nehmen.  Hoffentlich steckt sie uns nicht an.  Wenn bis Montag keiner krank geworden ist, werden wir anderen es wohl nicht bekommen.
