Evening Grosbeak/Abendkernbeißer

This morning, we had rare visitors at our bird feeder.  Miriam spotted them first: Evening Grosbeaks!

Heute morgen hatten wir seltenen Besuch an unserem Futterhäuschen.  Miriam hat ihn zuerst entdeckt: Abendkerbeißer!

Flora and I walked to the post office this afternoon.  It was so warm, almost 70 degrees.  What happened to the snow?  We discovered lots of empty wasp nests in the bare trees.

Walking to the post office is past this "wild stretch"

After our walk, we all (except Peter, who was teaching) raked leaves for one hour.

And guess what, our snowdrops are starting to grow, isn't that crazy?

Flora's and Veronika's craft is growing.
Floras und Veronikas Bastelei wächst.

And we finally got our car back!

  1. It's wonderful to see the birds at your feeder. Did Flora climb up to get the wasp's nest, or was it on the ground? It's good to climb trees . . how funny about the snow drops. Does that mean you will have a mild winter?! Have you ever had a mild winter :) Glad your car is back!

    1. Jonathan was all thrilled to hear about them. He loves this kind. No, the wasp nest had fallen down and we found it in our yard. All my girls have loved climbing trees. I am not sure about the snowdrops. I hope they will go back to sleep. There was one year when we had a short winter, but we have never had a mild one. Now we can drive to ballet again and also go shopping. We were running out of things.

    2. What does Jonathan like about the Evening Grosbeak? They are very pretty, but do they also have a particularly pretty call? Or is it their habits? I love the Northern Mockingbird because of its call .. I love how it can imitate other birds and sounds from the street! I also like how they like to perch on the tip of the building facades.

One really needs a car in the country!

Our winter here last year was definitely mild :)

    3. He thinks they are very pretty and he likes their call. We don't see mockingbirds here often. I wonder what the winter will be like this year.
