Miriam and I worked at the Chili library while Flora was taking care of her summer camp children.

Fairport, Erie Canal/Fairport am Eriekanal

We left early and dropped Flora off at the GCV&M.  Then we drove on to Fairport.  There was a used bookstore where the public library sells books.  Miriam found a book on Russian icons.

Wir sind früh aufgebrochen und haben Flora beim Freilichtmuseum abgesetzt.  Danach sind wir nach Fairport gefahren.  Es gab dort einen kleinen Laden, der zur städtischen Bücherei gehört.  Sie verkaufen dort Bücher, die sie nicht mehr wollen.  Miriam hat ein Buch über russische Ikonen gefunden.

Then we took a walk downtown.  It was a hazy and muggy day.

Dann sind wir im Ort spazieren gegangen.  Es war sehr schwül und diesig.

Diese Villa (1874-1876 erbaut) gehörte Henry DeLand.  DeLand hat das Backnatron in Fairport hergestellt.

Our letzten Tage/Our Last Days

Our hibiscus is doing well.  Each blossom is larger than my hand, and I have large hands.

Unser Hibiskus blüht sehr schön.  Jede Blüte ist größer als meine Hand, und meine Hände sind sehr groß.

August is marching on fast!  It is hot and humid.  Our neighbor came by to help Peter repair our front door which was not closing correctly anymore.  The two of them did not have the right screws, so they went shopping for screws before they repaired it.  Now we can close the door without any trouble.  We also had a man from church come by.  He owns a tree removal business.  We have a few dead trees in the backyard.  It turns out that he cannot remove those trees because they are too close to the power lines.  We had to call the electric company, and they sent an arborist.  The arborist had to confirm that the trees need to removed.  He did that and told me that he would send the removal crew to take a look.  They have not come so far.  Flora will start her work as a camp assistant tomorrow.  So we will be driving early towards Rochester tomorrow morning.  We will then keep driving to Fairport.  I need to renew my passport.  The German passport needs special photos which not everybody can take.  But in Fairport is somebody who takes photos like that.  A week later, I have an appointment with the consul to do all the paperwork for a new passport.  I am still working on my homeschool planning.  Pretty soon I will be able to order a few things which I want to use next school year.  You can see my plans, which are not set in stone, here.  I keep adding things or deleting things.  My syllabi for the next semester are also taking shape.  I have to upload so many audio files to Moodle that it is getting very tedious.  I guess those are some of news here.  Have a wonderful Sunday!

Neat picture book we read.  (paid link)

Der August scheint schnell vorwärts zu marschieren.  Es ist heiß und schwül.  Unser Nachbar war neulich hier, um Peter zu helfen, die Haustür zu reparieren.  Sie wollte nicht mehr richtig schließen.  Die beiden hatten nicht die richtigen Schrauben und sind dann erst einmal gemeinsam zum Schraubeneinkauf gefahren, was hier immer eine kleine Weltreise ist.  Jetzt ist die Tür aber wieder einsatzfähig.  Dann war jemand aus unserer Kirche hier, der ein Baumfällungsunternehmen betreibt.  Wir haben im Garten ein paar tote Bäume.  Er hat sich die Bäume angeschaut und dann festgestellt, daß die Stromfirma die Bäume entfernen muß, weil sie nahe an den Kabeln stehen.  Dafür ist dann ein Begutachter der Stromfirma gekommen, der bestätigt hat, daß die Bäume weg müssen.  Er hat den Baumfällern der Stromfirma Bescheid gegeben, die uns jetzt anrufen sollen.  Das ist aber noch nicht passiert.  Flora fängt morgen mit der Arbeit im Freilichtmuseum an.  Also müssen wir morgen früh Richtung Rochester fahren.  Wir liefern sie im Museum ab und fahren dann weiter nach Fairport, wo ich neue Paßfotos machen lasse.  Mein Paß läuft ab, und die Fotos dafür kann man hier nicht so einfach machen lassen, weil sie ein anderes Format als amerikanische Fotos haben.  Also muß man einen speziellen Fotografen finden.  Einen Termin mit dem Konsul habe ich dann in ein paar Wochen.  Dann muß der Paß nur noch in Deutschland gedruckt werden.  Ich arbeite immer noch an der Planung für Klasse 11 und mache Fortschritten bei meinen Lehrplänen für Deutsch.  Für Deutsch muß ich auch ganz viele Audio Dateien auf Moodle laden, was sehr aufwendig ist.  Ich glaube, das reicht an Neuigkeiten hier.  Einen schönen Sonntag noch!

San Diego County Fair

Here are a few more pictures from the San Diego County Fair and the dresses Veronika and the other fashion design students created.  They won two prices: "Best of Class: Creative Reuse/Unconventional Material Design" and "Best of Show: Costume Design."

Lawyers in Virginia still use "real" typewriters 😉.  They also take walks with the judges at 7:00 a.m.

In Virginia benutzen die Anwälte noch "echte" Schreibmaschinen 😉.  Man geht auch mit den Richtern morgens um 7 Uhr spazieren.

And Veronika had another trip by train to the beach.

We found a Red Underwing Moth in our house tonight.

Heute abend haben wir ein Rotes Ordensband in unserem Haus gefunden.
