Flora finished her current handwork project, a little gnome. He really likes his chestnuts.
Flora hat einen kleinen Wichtel für Handarbeiten zu Ende genäht. Er mag unsere Kastanien sehr.
This morning, we woke up to a non-functioning furnace: It would not stop! It was getting so hot that we had to go outside. We called our furnace company and they suggested a few things. I turned off the furnace in the basement (we had already turned off the thermostat, but that did not help, and we were not sure if you could safely switch off the furnace completely). We then replaced the batteries in the thermostat (of course, I had to go and buy some because we did not have the needed size). When I turned the furnace back on, it did not start heating again (which was good) and so far it seems to be working. We just hope that it will stay this way.
Julius is about the same and we have been in contact with our vet every day. He is resting right now, but seems to be generally confused and is very slow. He received two rounds of fluids and two penicillin injections.

Flora’s gnome is brilliant and thank goodness you managed to sort the furnace. Poor, poor Julius he does not sound good 🙁. We are on tier three in our part of the UK which means no contact with folk in your garden but you can meet with one other household in a park, so Pip and I have planned to meet with Beth and her family on Beacon Fell on Monday. It’s a very unsettling time for sure xx
ReplyDeleteThe gnome is from the book "Feltcraft." Do you know it? It has some great projects although the instructions are somewhat vague.
DeleteThe furnace was so weird! Normally, when the thermostat is not working, it gets really cold, but this time it got so hot and we could not stop it.
No, Julius is not in good shape and there is not really anything that can be done, unless you belong to the super rich. It is really hard to watch him like this.
I have followed the numbers in Europe and most countries are having huge problems, especially more rural areas. My father's area is seeing rising numbers and first deaths. This is also happening in our county here. We have almost 100 active cases and 9 deaths. Many schools are closing again. I am glad you could still have an outing for Pip!
The gnome is adorable (beautiful work Flora!) and the picture of it in the chestnuts is very cute. That's funny and scary about the furnace .. very strange! I'm glad you got it sorted out. We have a ton of C and D batteries, but none of the double As that we always need!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping the penicillin injections will start to help dear Julius . . There's only so much you can do. Often the extra tests or procedures only prolong the problem, even if you could afford such things. The antibiotic and fluids are smart things to give him, and being home with you is his best comfort. Hang in there xoxo
P.S. I guess there's an uptick everywhere! Take care and stay well xoxo
Isn't it crazy that there are so many different battery sizes? It was a bit scary, I mean, when the heat simply does not go on, you think, well, something is not working right, but when it goes non-stop and gets hotter and hotter and you know it is a gas-furnace, you do get worried. That is why we called the furnace people before we touched anything. It was actually good we called because you had to make sure the fan also got turned off.
DeleteJulius is next to me on the couch, sleeping. He did his "walks" with Peter and the girls. Last night, around 3:30 a.m., he looked like he wanted to go out and so I did take him out in the middle of the night. It was a warm nigh, so it was okay, but right now it is freezing. I hope nobody has to go out with him in the cold tonight.
We are a micro-cluster now, we even made it into the Buffalo News. Our local nursing home has basically everybody infected with nine or more deaths. Two other nursing homes in the south of the county are heading into the same direction. Two public schools are going online and a memorial service in a church caused another major outbreak. I just hope the college will stay healthy!
Flora worked very fast to finish her gnome. She loves creative projects that are fast.
