This Sunday, we visited two St. Patrick's churches for Mass: First we celebrated Mass with Cardinal Dolan in New York City and later we watched Father Alexander say Mass and do a consecration to Mary from the basement of St. Patrick's in Soho, in London. Last time, we were in that basement, we attended a lecture by the director of the National Gallery!
Am heutigen Sonntag haben wir zwei verschiedene St. Patrick Kirchen besucht. Die heilige Messe haben wir mit Kardinal Dolan in der St. Patrick Kathedrale in New York City gefeiert und dann haben wir zugeschaut, wie Pfarrer Alexander aus "unserer" Kirche in Soho, London, Messe gelesen hat, und danach eine Marienweihe hatte. Die Messe fand im Keller statt. In dem Keller waren wir zuletzt für einen Vortrag von dem Direktor der Nationalgallerie.
I have been kind of creative for our teatime food on Sundays, since baking is not possible right now. We did order a new stove, but it won't get delivered and set-up until April 9! Today I made some truffles and last Sunday I made snack balls.
Ich war die letzten beiden Sonntage sehr kreativ: Da wir ja auf einen neuen Herd warten und ich nicht backen kann, habe ich heute Pralinen zum Kaffeetrinken gemacht und letzten Sonntag kleine süße Bällchen.

My free time is just taken up by working on my German class. This online business is so time consuming because all the grading is also online. Grading a foreign language is time consuming anyway, but to do it all online, is just almost impossible. I have planned out my course until Easter and am working feverishly on the weeks after that. Of course, I have had a plan for the whole semester before we went online, but that needs to be modified now to work for an all online class and that takes so much time! That is why I cannot even answer all my comments here in a timely fashion.
Meine wenige Freizeit ist im Moment ganz von meinem Deutschseminar eingenommen. Das Korrigieren und Hochladen online ist sehr aufwendig. Bis Ostern ist mein Kurs jetzt auch online geplant, die Wochen danach entstehen gerade. Ich hatte natürlich einen genauen Plan für das normale Deutschseminar, doch der muß jetzt ganz umstrukturiert werden und das braucht eben sehr viel Zeit.

I empathize with the computer work. It's very frustrating and does take too much time. I'm sorry you have to modify everything. I hope you can finish soon and then just have the grading to do. You're a hard worker and a terrific teacher and mom.
The day looks quite warm, and I recognize your card game. It's the tree matching game, isn't it? We have one too. Greg and I played it a week or so ago and he easily won. I was so distracted from the pandemic (my excuse!)
Thanks, Dorina! Yes, we loved the knitting teacher's visit and her sister was equally welcome. And again, thanks! I often think I am failing in so many aspects . . . Yes, it was quite warm, but today is cold again! I think they played the game where you match a leaf to a tree. Is that the one you mean? The "virus" as I call it, is just so invasive. I mean this literally and also symbolically. It can eat us all up and get us distracted from what is truly important. We had our first death in our county today and the case numbers of infected people are rising. Last week, there were just two infected people. I know that this is nothing in comparison to NYC, but we have more cows than people here, so each case counts more.
DeleteDefinitely counts more. I worry that since people are more spread out by you, they will think they can't get it like here in NYC, but that's not true and may cause more problems. DeleteSo true, I think our village has people that are quite aware of this, but in many really rural areas, people probably don't think about these things. Thanks so much for the link and the e-mail. Don't worry about the instruction part. You cannot be careful enough -- although I doubt that the delivery people will have masks. Nobody around here has them so far. The earliest they can come is sometime next week. Maybe by then masks will be mandatory? There is more talk about them now.

DeleteYes, that would be probably good, but then you first have to have them available! Not everybody is good at sewing. And I bet there are many people out there that would not wear them.
DeleteAch, das habe ich gar nicht mitbekommen, dass Euer Herd kaputt gegangen ist, wie blöd! Ist nur der Backofen kaputt oder der Herd auch? Auf den Backofen kann man im Notfall ja verzichten aber wenn der Herd kaputt ist hat man ja gleich ein Problem. Deine Süßigkeiten sehen sehr lecker aus, würdest Du um die Ecke wohnen wäre ich auf eine Praline vorbeigekommen. :-) Schöne Bilder von den Mädchen sind das wieder.
ReplyDeleteNein, nein, der Herd geht noch, nur der Backofen! Hier sagt man ja oft "stove" und meint damit beides. Schade, daß wir uns nicht mal so eben besuchen können!

DeleteIch hätte eigentlich im Mai nach Deutschland fliegen sollen, um meine Mutter zu sehen, aber das geht jetzt auch nicht.
DeleteDas ist sehr sehr schade, ich kann mir vorstellen, dass Du Deine Mutter endlich wiedersehen willst, vor allem in der Situation, in der sie ist. Das tut mir wirklich leid, dass auch das nicht geht im Moment. Allerdings denke ich auch, dass dieser Shutdown nun wirklich nicht ewig aufrecht erhalten werden kann.
