Ich glaube, daß Charlottes Uni mich als neue Beraterin für die Studenten anstellen soll, die einen Tanzabschluß machen. Ich kenne mich jetzt bestens nicht nur bei den vorgeschriebenen Kursen für Tanz aus, sondern auch bei den Fächern/Kursen, die alle Studenten machen müssen. Sie mußte sich heute für die Frühlingskurse anmelden, aber durch die vielen vorgeschriebenen Tanzkurse, konnten wir kaum Platz für andere Kurse in ihrem Stundenplan finden. Jetzt haben wir aber einen Stundenplan gebastelt, der wohl funktionieren wird. Ich habe sehr viele Kursbeschreibungen in den letzten Tagen gelesen, um herauszufinden, was ihr wohl gefallen würde und in den Plan passen würde. Jonathans College könnte mich natürlich auch anstellen, aber bei Charlottes Uni kenne ich mich jetzt doch besser aus.
So, what else did I do except reading course descriptions and playing around with schedules? I drove Veronika and Flora to dance. Miriam had to stay home because she has a bad cold. We almost hit a stag on the way back, but I saw him just in time and was able to break.

Was habe ich sonst noch gemacht? Ich habe Veronika und Flora zum Tanz gefahren. Miriam mußte zu Hause bleiben, weil sie eine starke Erkältung hat. Sie konnte heute auch nicht zu ihrer Kunststunde gehen. Auf der Rückfahrt wären wir beinahe mit einem Hirsch zusammengestoßen, aber ich habe dann noch rechtzeitig bremsen können.

While we were in this library, Charlotte was in her college library and sent me this picture of some German books she had found. She checked out Buddenbrooks.
Während Flora und ich in der öffentlichen Bücherei saßen, saß Charlotte in der Unibibliothek. Dort hat sie ein paar deutsche Bücher entdeckt und für mich fotografiert. Sie hat sich dann die Buddenbrooks ausgeliehen.
Unsere Hauptepochen sind zur Zeit Algebra für Veronika, Meteorologie für Miriam und Bruchlehre für Flora.

Unser neues Abendvorlesebuch ist Daddy Langbein. Ich habe das als junges Mädchen auf Deutsch gelesen und gemocht. Nun lese ich es auf Englisch vor.

Guten Morgen Ihr Lieben, erst einmal gute Besserung für Miriam! Diese Erkältungen sind lästig. Ich merke schon Dir schwirrt der Kopf von den vielen Kursplänen, verständlicher Weise. :-) Danke für die neue gute Buchempfehlung. Ich habe diese Woche gemerkt, dass ich alles immer nur bestellen kann, also kaufen muss. Die Bücherei hier ist einfach zu klein. Per Fernleihe kann man keine Kinder- und Jugendbücher ausleihen, nur Erwachsenenbücher. Das ist zwar verständlich aber ärgerlich. Fährt Jonathan's Auto wieder? Schöne Bilder habt Ihr gemacht. Gut, dass Du das Reh nicht angefahren hast.
ReplyDeleteDanke für die Genesungswünsche! Sie ist wieder auf den Beinen, doch hat sie jetzt einen hartnäckigen Husten. Ja, mein Kopf ist voll mit all den Möglichkeiten, die Charlotte hat, aber die dann immer nicht zeitlich in ihren Stundenplan passen.
DeleteDumm, daß man diese Bücher nicht in der Bücherei kriegen kann. Ich bekomme hier alles aus der Bücherei! Keine Fernleihe für Kinder-und Jugenbücher! Wie schrecklich. Ich lebe davon :). Jonathans Auto fährt, aber ist nicht repariert. Ich bin auch froh, daß dieser Hirsch die andere Straßenseite heile erreicht hat. Das wäre ein Alptraum gewesen, wenn ich ihn angefahren hätte. Eine Studentin hat mir neulich ein Foto von einem Bären gezeigt, der versucht hat, die Bienenstöcke ihres Vaters auszurauben. Die Bären sind hier inzwischen zu einer Plage geworden und dürfen geschossen werden, falls sie Unfrieden stiften. Der Vater dieser Studentin ist, wie die meisten Männer hier, auch Jäger und hat eine Schießerlaubnis auch für diese Bären. Ich wohne wirklich auf dem Lande!
Ich frage mich, ob das wohl die gleichen Viren sind, die auf den Kontinenten so herumgehen. Gut, dass Miriam es überstanden hat.
DeleteDas mit der Bücherei ist umso ärgerlicher als dass sie "nur" diese überall bekannten Bücher hat, nichts von Urachhaus oder Freies Geistesleben. Ganz viel Erstlesebücher und sowas, die wir nie gelesen haben da sie inhaltslos sind. Aber ok, ich zeige Dir nächste Tage meine Ausbeute. Ich habe einige davon auf der Charlotte Mason Österreich Seite gefunden. Natürlich kann ich keine Berge anschaffen aber ein paar gab es jetzt mal wieder.
Ja, anscheinend können auch Bären zur Plage werden. Eigentlich hatte der Bär wohl "nur" Hunger. :-) Es ist immer ein Problem wenn die Tiere keine Scheu mehr haben und zu nah an die Siedlungen oder an die Menschen herankommen. So ein Problem hat ja Churchill in Kanada mit den Eisbären. War das Churchill? Ich meine schon.
Ja, das weiß ich gar nicht, aber ich glaube, es muß doch schon Unterschiede geben.
DeleteBei meinen Eltern in der Bücherei habe ich auch diese Erstlesebücher gesehen, die wirklich kaum brauchbar sind (es gibt ein paar Ausnahmen). Das ist so schade, daß man kaum noch gute Bücher in den Büchereien findet.
Ja, wahrscheinlich hat er Hunger, weil es schon schneit, doch eigentlich machen die Bären ja Winter-schlaf. Ja, Churchill, aber auch in Merritt, wo ich ein Jahr gelebt habe, gab es mal einen Bären, der sich auf einem Schulhof tummelte . . .

DeleteEine Lehrerin hat mir mal erklärt, dass diese Erstlesebücher so geschrieben werden, dass sie aus möglichst einfachen Wörtern bestehen sollen damit die Kinder einen Leseerfolg haben sollen. Nur sind sie dann meist eben inhaltslos. Ich habe schon immer ganz normal geschriebene Bücher mit den Kindern gelesen, Du doch sicherlich auch.
Ich war in der high school und habe die Geschichte nur erzählt bekommen von Leuten, die dort Kinder hatten. Ja, die Kinder mußten alle im Gebäude bleiben bis jemand gekommen ist, der den Bär betäubt und dann entfernt hat.
DeleteJa, diese Erstlesebücher haben nur einen begrenzten Wortschatz, aber man kann auch mit so einem Wortschatz schöne Bücher schreiben. Wir haben einige Waldorffibeln, die ja auch für Anfänger sind. Für Flora sind die perfekt, die anderen Kinder haben auch gleich normale Kinderbücher gelesen.
Angelika, hier kann man auch in Deutschland per Fernleihe Waldorfbücher bekommen!

DeleteI don't remember it being so difficult figuring out one's class requirements when I went to school. I think things have become more difficult. I remember my sister also spending a lot of time sorting through classes when her sons were in college. Chanda is slowly starting to look at local schools. She was asking us questions for applications about a week ago. I was very surprised at the information they wanted (information about Greg and I that I didn't think was any of their business as Chanda is the one applying).
ReplyDeleteIt is very fortunate that you did not hit that stag!!!! I know several people that have hit deer on the Taconic Parkway and also out by my mom and dad's house and all instances were very unpleasant. It must have been a bit scary for all of you in the car.

No, I think it is getting harder and harder to put together your credits and there are more an more requirements.
DeleteAre those questions for FAFSA? I don't know if you are doing that. Or is she looking at the Common Applications? If you need help for any of those, we have become experts (Peter for FAFSA and I for the Common Application).
There are so many dead deer here (and so many live ones)! Every Tuesday I pray that I don't hit one. They are all over and it is so dark. I always ask the girls to help me look for them when we drive.
Those two books are good ones. I like them both.

DeleteThe deer population is something I think all counties have to deal with now. I wish towns would implement fertility control before the population gets out of hand. I know my parents' town has a regular hunting season, and most places do . . but I'm not sure that is enough. I know fertility control is not easy to implement, but I think with a hunting season it could keep things more stable and less dangerous. It's just expensive and a lot of work. ReplyDeleteYes, the one in Germany is also way easier! I never had to go through anything like this! It is crazy and so complicated. And when you finally find a course, you notice that there is a waiting list! This happened to us with a theology course she has to take. Oh well, she might take Russian literature instead and take the theology another time.
DeleteI think it is kind of funny that both Jonathan and Charlotte put almost only ballet/dance pictures on their Instagram account, but send the "normal" pictures to me. It is good I get to see them so we can participate in their lives. And I like to post them!
I was going to mention that, about courses filling up, but I was hoping that Charlotte wouldn't have this situation. I know many universities require particular classes, but then don't have the room for all the students that need to take them! I find it so ridiculous and it aggravates me. It's silly of me to get so upset about it, but I do! It just seems very unfair. I went to a small college, and I remember being able to get into all the classes I needed for my undergraduate degree. You're such a good mom to help her figure this out and find the best situation for her.
DeleteI did not think that Mercyhurst has this problem, but even Houghton does (as I found out). You know, it is actually harder than you think to offer the right number of courses. Peter said that they are planned before the colleges know how many students enroll and thus it is always a bit of a guessing game. You might plan too many or too few. They also have to match the "load sheets" of the different departments. Each department may only offer a certain number of courses, which in turn depends on the status of each professor and how many courses that particular person is allowed to offer. Right now, we have the problem that all humanities courses are full and there are many people on a waiting list. That was not what anybody had predicted, but there is not enough faculty to teach another section. So I am not sure what will happen. Most classrooms also have a limited number of seats and you could not fit in more students.
