On Tuesday, we had our last home ecology class. I prepared a zucchini dish for the slow cooker and then we left for our class.
Our class was about insects: Look at these gypsy moth caterpillars!
Looking for insects: No more mask requirments!

Flora does not have to walk Cooper during the summer, but she still sometimes goes over and takes him for a walk.
Today, we have to hand in our fourth quarterly reports and the results of the standardized tests. Veronika and Miriam reached the highest possible percentile and Flora reached the 81st. We are so proud of all three girls. For Flora, this is a huge milestone. She not only reached the required percentile for homeschoolers in NYS in her first test, but surpassed it by far! NF 1 is no fun when it comes to learning and studying, but Flora's continuous efforts in combination with different educational materials than the ones I used for the other four, have made a huge difference. We are so happy for her! Miriam has now officially finished high school, but we will keep working on a few subjects, especially math. She will take the SAT in the fall.
P.S. But we do have summer school in our house.
Well done Flora that is a massive achievement 🙂. Well done to you Eva for adjusting your teaching and materials to help Flora reach her goals, you are one epic homeschool mum ❤️❤️
ReplyDeleteI was so relieved when the results came back! I thought she might not be able to reach the minimum percentile, which would have put her homeschool status in jeopardy. There are still many things we need to work on (spelling is just one of them), but over a year ago, she could not even read all of the test instructions! Now she not only read them, but knew what she had to do, and answered all questions. Some of the things we have used for learning to read I discovered in England. There are not many tools like that available here. Most of the remedial materials here are meant for schools and/or cost an arm and a leg. It has been a complicated journey in trying to help her particular learning challenges, but I must have done something right :). Thank for you compliment!
DeleteCongratulations to Flora and to you too, Eva! This is happy news. I'm always impressed with the resources you find, and you are a wonderful teacher :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much and yes, I am so relieved! She has come so far and is making good progress. I was worried, our homeschool would end up on probation for her or that I would have to go the special needs route, which would have been so complicated. We do have a lady who helps NF1 children in our county, but I have never contacted her. I think she only gives ideas, like, who could help such a child, but I think I know most of those ideas anyway. When I ordered the PASS test for Flora, the lady working there said that her nephew also had NF1! I was so surprised. You never hear about other children like that.
