Security: Passengers had to give their weight and were also told to use the bathroom one more time. There are no bathrooms on board. They need to know each person's weight to seat the people so that the plane is balanced.
Sicherheitskontrolle: Die Passagiere mußten ihr Gewicht angeben und wurden auch gebeten, noch einmal die Toilette zu benutzen, weil es im Flugzeug keine gibt. Das Gewicht brauchen sie, damit sie die Passagiere so hinsetzen können, daß das Flugzeug nicht die Balance verliert.

We went to the vigil Mass at St. Joseph's church. It was founded by Germans.
Wir waren zur Vorabendmesse in der St. Josephs-Kirche, die von Deutschen gegründet worden ist.
The high altar and side altars were made in Germany.
Der Hochaltar und die Seitenaltäre sind in Deutschland hergestellt worden.
This video shows the beginning of the church. We actually met the historian featured in the video. He explained the the different statues of saints to us that can be seen on the altars.

Peter took Miriam back to Auburn today, Sunday. She met her friends there and they drove back to New Hampshire.
Peter hat Miriam nach Auburn gefahren, wo sie dann mit ihren Freunden wieder nach New Hampshire gefahren ist.
At last I get to wish you both a Happy Thanksgiving and First Sunday of Advent! Every time I try and post a comment from my phone it disappears! Your Thanksgiving meal looked really delicious and it must have been so special to have everyone home to celebrate.

Thanks so much, San! I don't know about the phone and commenting issues. I have tried to turn the blog on and off, but I guess it does not make a difference. I never use a phone to comment or look at blogs, so I have no idea what the issue might be. Commenting works for me from my laptop.
DeleteThat airport/plane is a wonderful way to get Jonathan back and forth without breaking a bank. He cannot use his car anymore because too many things are wrong with it and there are no parking places available at the law school (or cost thousands of dollars)! The car is here at home, but we have to get rid of it. I think the flight time is about 90 minutes It was so nice to have everybody home, but also complicated to get them here because the distances are so far.

Ihr habt ja wahnsinnig schönes Wetter gehabt! So viel Sonne im November! In einem Flugzeug wie diesem bin ich damals von NY nach Pittsburgh geflogen als ich zum ersten Mal in Amerika ankam und es war mir richtig unheimlich. :-D Die Kirche und der Altar sind sehr schön, besonders gefällt mir die blaue Decke. ReplyDeleteWir hatten so großes Glück mit dem Wetter, besonders nach den letzten Schneestürmen, die zum Teil zu Fahrverboten geführt haben. Ich bin noch nie in so einem kleinen Flugzeug geflogen und ich glaube, ich würde "flugkrank" werden! Aber es ist die schnellste und billigste Möglichkeit für Jonathan nach Hause zu kommen. Die Kirche war sehr schön und alles sehr gut restauriert. Ich glaube, die Krippe kommt auch aus Deutschland.
DeleteThe church is very pretty and it was fun to see Jonathan's small plane fly off! I'm glad you could all be together for Thanksgiving. The transportation is not easy to organize, but you and Peter have managed it well! It's good Miriam can sometimes have a ride.
ReplyDeleteIt has an interesting history, which ties in nicely with Erie's history. No, the transportation problems are more than a challenge! And the same will have to happen for Christmas. For Christmas, Miriam needs to fly. She is coming home on Friday and Peter will have to pick her up at midnight in Buffalo!
