Hops Harvest/Hopfenernte

Yesterday, we went to help out with the hops harvest at the GCV&M.  It was very hot, maybe not the best idea for such a hot day.  Miriam and Charlotte worked as volunteers making little hops-filled bags.  There were also many other things to discover.

The "costume lady" had not come by this morning and so Miriam and Charlotte were without costume until lunch time.

It is quite tedious and the hops is quite sticky.

  1. It's so nice to hear them playing Muß i denn. I have such wonderful memories of my mom and my aunt singing it together at family gatherings. Yes, the heat has been relentless. Every week I hope that it can just stay below 90 with low humidity, and every week my hopes are dashed!

Did the hops have a strong odor, and did you eat the peach? We've been enjoying peaches here . .

    1. Oh, you know it! We used to have annual hiking days in school. The whole school would go on different hikes and we would always sing, including "Muß i denn"! So sweet your aunt and mother know it. Do you think your mom could still sing it?

Yes, I did not care for the smell of the hops, too strong. All of our clothing smelled like it when we got home and Peter commented on the "bad smell." The peach spoiled, it turned brown very quickly, which was too bad. I am highly allergic to fresh peaches, so I did not care, but the girls were disappointed.

The humidity is finally lower, at least here.
