In the afternoon we had our home ecology class. The topic was Monarch Butterflies. Elijah, our teacher, had a wonderful presentation on Monarchs. I never knew they had scales!
Am Nachmittag hatten wir unsere Heimökologieklasse. Das Thema waren die Monarchfalter. Elijah, unser Lehrer, hatte einen wunderbaren Vortrag zusammengestellt, bei dem die Kinder auch immer wieder miteinbezogen waren. Ich habe nie gewußt, daß der Monarchfalter Schuppen hat!

And here we are, getting ready to release four female Monarchs. They will fly to Mexico.
Und jetzt dürfen wir vier weibliche Monarchfalter freilassen. Diese Falter begeben sich jetzt nach Mexiko.

It is quite far from here to Mexico.
Die Reise von hier nach Mexiko ist sehr weit.
We have been working hard on our main lessons. Miriam and Charlotte are doing a three week block on the English language. They studied the International Phonetic Alphabet this week and now we are moving on to the history of the English language. Veronika is studying the Romans, and Flora is doing local geography. She is working on a map of our house.
Wir haben diese Woche gute Fortschritte in unseren Hauptepochen gemacht. Miriam und Charlotte machen drei Wochen etwas über die englische Sprache. Diese Woche haben sie sich mit dem internationalen phonetischen Alphabet beschäftigt. Nächste Woche fangen wir dann mit einem sprachhistorischen Überblick an. Veronika lernt die Römer kennen, und Flora macht Heimatkunde. Sie hat einen Grundriß von unserem Haus gezeichnet.
Next week, ballet will start and that means a lot of driving again.
Nächste Woche fängt auch wieder Ballett und damit das viele Fahren wieder an.

DeleteI never knew that about scales on the Monarchs either. These are amazing photos of them (and of Flora with them!). It is very far to Mexico and must be a fascinating journey. Perhaps one day they will be able to attach a teeny tiny camera to the butterfly! I wouldn't be surprised if they figured out how to do that.
ReplyDeleteThe dust you sometimes get on your hands when touching a butterfly's wings are actually the scales. Yes, the way technology moves (smaller and smaller pieces), a camera would not be so unlikely. Now we hope that somebody will report the finding of Flora's butterfly in the spring. That would be wonderful. And thanks for the compliment on the photos!
