St. Joseph's Day/Josefstag

We walked to St. Joseph's Church in Highgate this morning (the bus was not showing up, so we decided to walk) to attend the Mass for St. Joseph's Day.  The church was very full.  There is a Catholic school attached to the church and all the children were attending Mass with their teachers and principal.  They did the readings and music and were very well behaved.  We were amazed.  The music was all modern, but the children sang along with gusto.  After Mass they kept singing their school song over and over again because it was all about St. Joseph.

The church belongs to the Passionists.  One young woman from our Catholic homeschooling group back home also belongs to the Passionists.  She is in Kentucky now.

Back home we did some schoolwork and then had lunch.  After lunch, Miriam and I went to Kipferl and Flora had her CenterforLit class.  She had finished A Tale of Two Cities just in time.  Veronika read the book with her and they both listened to the class.  Peter was out and about teaching and grading.

  1. What a lovely church service (mass) for St. Joseph's Day. It's heartwarming to hear about the children's enthusiasm. Your pictures are pretty. It's truly spring in London! Did Flora enjoy reading _A Tale of Two Cities_? It's one of my favorite Dickens tales.

    1. We were so impressed with these children because often children cannot sit still for so long and focus so long on a church service. But that was different here. Flora really liked it. We still want to go through London to take a look at some of the places mentioned in the book. Yes, spring has arrived and all the leaves are coming out.

    2. Spring always amazes me. You'll have to post a photo or two of the spots you find!

    3. We searched for Little Dorrit spots in 2022, but not "A Tale . ."

    5. There's also a Little Dorrit movie . . would you share the title of your book that lists all the Dicken's spots?

    6. It is called "Literary London" by Ed Glinert and has tons of authors in it, not just Dickens. I mentioned it to the other professor, who is here with us for the program. He said he should take it off his bookshelf and really look at it. It is in the flat he is renting, but he has not done much with it because he is always so busy, but he is an English professor :).
