On Wednesday afternoon, we drove to Yorkshire to get our Covid booster. We tried Walgreens this time and there was online paperwork to fill out (for Walgreens and NYS), but when we got to our appointments, we had to redo all the Walgreens paperwork because they had the wrong forms online. Oh well, we did what we had to and then got our vaccines. We did not have to sit on a chair for 15 minutes afterwards and the young man, who administered the vaccines, was a lover of German-American "Biergartens" as he told me. He had visited some in Buffalo and Pittsburgh.
The day started out with light snow, but at the end, we got into a real snowstorm closer to Buffalo. I do not have pictures of the snowstorm because it was pitch-dark and we were concentrating on driving and not taking pictures.
This is the road to Yorkshire.

And then we drove on to Hamburg! This village was actually named after the German Hamburg and you see a lot of German names all over: Kronenberg, Scharf, Schiller, Schwabl, etc., and they also have an Oktoberfest.
St. Peter and Paul, the Catholic church in Hamburg. This is the third building, the first one was bought by the Germans in 1845 from the Baptists. Then they built the second one in 1863 and finally this one in 1911. Here is a bit more about the history of this congregation.

We had something to drink at the café after having finished our errands.

I really liked this pattern. It reminded me of the artist Hundertwasser.
Then we stopped at Aldi.
Dann waren wir noch bei Aldi.
Now, this is this morning, when we got up super early for Miriam's SAT. I had made a pancake batter and put it on timed baking so that the pancakes were ready when we woke up.
After having taken Miriam to her test center, Peter and I drove to Olean to pick up his rental car.
This afternoon, Peter climbed the roof to clean out the gutters.
Veronika did some cleaning and sewing: Here she is fixing one of our Roman blinds.
Peter also mowed the front lawn.
And Flora carried some leaves away.
Und Flora hat Blätter weggebracht.
I dusted, did a lot of laundry, and tidied up. I also talked to my father on the phone. 💖

Hamburg looks very pretty and quaint. You had a beautiful sky and clouds after a snowy morning. Very typical autumn weather for you with hints of cold winter! I agree that the cafe chairs were lovely.
ReplyDeleteI have to do some mowing when I'm next out at the house.
Charlotte's pumpkins are very cute! Is Jonathan enjoying grad school? It seems very interesting.
I hope your father is doing well. xoxo
I had never been downtown in Hamburg and thought it was quite nice. Yes, the weather is kind of typical, just right now it is too warm for November.
DeleteWe still have to mow behind our house and at the sides.
Yes, he is enjoying it! He is doing many different things. I wonder what he will think when the law courses start next fall.
My father has been having some health issues, but he seems to be doing better.
Hamburg looks pretty and it was funny to read that you visited Yorkshire as it’s just over the border from us!! Saturday must have been very tiring with that very early start, hope the SAT went well for Miriam. Hope your mum and dad are doing as well as possible.
ReplyDeleteWe are now able to book a third Covid jab with a first one for Pip, I’ll be glad when we have it done - Pip and I had to do lateral flow tests this weekend, thank God they were negative!! Pip however has been floored by a virus which in turn exacerbates the PoTS, so it’s a school day today - hopefully we can work on our souls family/friends banner and decorate a Martinmas lantern. Happy Monday dear friend xx
Should have read a ‘no school day!!’ X
DeleteThere are many interesting place names around here: British, German, Native American, etc. I guess some British people settled in Yorkshire.
DeleteOh, good that you will be able to do the third round. Peter and I are glad we got number three. Teens are not eligible for a third one so far. I hope that Pip will do okay with her first. And I do hope that she will get healthy soon. I have not made any plans for Martinmas because it is another ballet day for us. We will see if we can do something on the weekend.
