The weeks go by so fast, it is already Friday! Peter had to leave shortly after breakfast this morning to lead a book club via Zoom, but on campus. He then spent almost his entire day in front of the computer in several meetings (all meetings are via Zoom). He only had 30 minutes to heat up his lunch and then he taught one class in the classroom and not via Zoom. Not a nice way to spend your day!
Die Wochen verfliegen wie im Nu, es ist schon wieder Freitag! Peter ist gleich nach dem Frühstück zum College gegangen, um mit Zoom mit einigen Studenten Bücher, die sie gelesen haben, zu besprechen. Den Rest des Tages hatte er fast nur Zoom-Treffen mit anderen Professoren. Nur einmal gab es 30 Minuten Zeit, um sein Mittagessen aufzuwärmen und dann konnte er einmal die Studenten im Seminarraum unterrichten. Es war also ein recht anstrengender Tag.
For our main lessons, we did a lot of hands-on things. Miriam is making a gargoyle for architecture. She has finished her windmill. Veronika is making a craft using shapes favored by the artist Matisse for art history. Flora painted a scene from Gilgamesh.
Für unsere Hauptepochen haben wir viel gewerkelt. Miriam hat einen Wasserspeier aus Ton für Architektur geformt. Ihre Windmühle ist fertig. Veronika bastelt etwas mit Formen, die Matisse mochte, für Kunstgeschichte. Flora hat ein Wasserfarbmalbild zu Gilgamesch gemalt.

Eine neue Eislaterne!
Veronika had her last Jane Austen class with Center for Lit tonight. So we decided that our movie for Friday evening should be Sense and Sensibility. We did not watch the whole movie today, but half of it. When it came out, Peter and I watched it in a movie theater, that was in 1996!
Veronika hatte heute ihre letzte Klasse über Jane Austen. Also haben wir uns entschieden, den Film Sinn und Sinnlichkeit zu sehen. Wir haben heute nur die Hälfte geguckt, weil er recht lang ist. Als er rauskam, haben Peter und ich ihn im Kino gesehen, das war 1996!
All the craft and practical projects are lovely especially the windmill a real labour of love. The moon has been particularly beautiful. Poor Peter what a day! I hope you all have a lovely weekend xx
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, San. The girls have been having lots of fun to get breaks like this from their book work. I was amazed to see the moon so clearly. Peter works too much. He is on the presidential search committee and they meet via Zoom for a whole day! It is just crazy.
DeleteWie toll, die Windmühle, die Eislaterne und überhaupt - Ihr seid ja ganz schön aktiv mit den Händen gewesen. Man braucht auch wirklich ein bisschen Abwechslung zum Schreiben und Lesen und Rechnen und den eher trockenen Unterrichtseinheiten. Ich kann Dich verstehen, es ist bei uns im Moment auch eher stressig. Es kann auch ganz schön anstrengend sein, so wie Peter den ganzen Tag am Pc sitzen und müssen und dann noch von Meeting zu Meeting zu gehen. Da ist man doch nachher auch müde.
ReplyDeleteJa, die Abwechselung ist wichtig, auch in den oberen Klassen, wo es ja viel mehr Kopfarbeit gibt! Ja, Peter ist Teil des Komitees, das einen neuen Collegepräsidenten für unser College sucht. Alle Vorstellungsgespräche sind online und auch die Diskussionen über die einzelnen Kandidaten.
DeleteGreg often has long meetings on the phone and Zoom. They are tiring! I recognize the Matisse shapes, and Miriam's windmill did indeed come out very well. I clearly remember this movie coming out in 1996, however, I waited until I could get it out on a DVD to see it as the children were little and I didn't get out to the movies very much. Did Veronika enjoy the class and this story? It's one of my favorites, and I like the movie also.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is very tiring to be on Zoom all the time. Matisse cut those shapes towards the end of his life when he could not paint so well anymore, due to failing health. I think they are very pretty. She did enjoy the movie, book, and class. There are some other movies of that book out and we hope to watch a few others. Miriam is reading "Emma" right now, so we will have to watch that movie also. Peter and I saw that one in a cinema also.
