For organic chemistry, Veronika made some glycerin soap today.

She has been also learning about different types of plastics, which ones are safe, which ones are not, and about recycling.
Sie hat auch etwas über die verschiedenen Sorten von Plastik gelernt, welche für den Menschen gefährlich und welche ungefährlich sind und wie man Plastik recycelt. Peter Lustig hat ein gutes Video zu diesem Thema.
It is snowing again and quite cold. Right now it is 16 degrees. Jonathan was so kind to take the girls to ballet. Peter had a long dentist treatment today and was glad he did not have to drive again after that.
Es schneit wieder und ist ziemlich kalt, -9 Grad. Jonathan war ganz lieb und hat die Mädchen zum Ballett gefahren. Peter hatte eine lange Zahnbehandlung am Morgen und war so froh, daß er sie nicht fahren mußte.
Wie schön die Seifen von Veronika geworden sind! Sehr hübsch. Minus neun Grad ist aber wirklich ganz schön kalt aber Ihr habt so schönen Schnee habe ich gesehen, wunderschön sieht das aus. Ich muss Mumpel fragen, ob sie diesen Peter Lustig kennt!
ReplyDeleteJa, sie sind alle ganz klein, aber sehen zum Anbeißen aus. Heute waren Flora und ich bei minus 10 Grad spazieren. Das war nicht so lustig, aber ich wollte unbedingt an die frische Luft. Diese Peter Lustig Reihen sind für ältere Kinder, sie sind "wissenschaftlicher".
DeleteHello Eva, I haven't made glycerine soap in so long, but seeing yours, I'm having a desire to make some again :) I'll have to see if I still have a soap making book on the shelf. What recipe did Veronika use? And I need to listen to a lecture from her about the different plastics! I've always wondered which ones were alright and which ones weren't. (Actually, I think the last time we made soap, we used a kit - but I know I have a book somewhere.)
ReplyDeleteYour photo is very pretty, with the blue sky, white clouds and smooth white snow. I miss having cold and snowy winters. It is finally cold here today . . it's been about 10 to 20 degrees. It's supposed to snow Sunday evening, so it will probably warm up a bit for that. People are still eating outside in this weather! Chanda was at work all day at the cafe. They were able to close the door in between customers so it didn't get too bad. Plus, she was working the espresso machine which kept her warm.
It was fun to make the soap. It needed to be glycerine soap to fit in with her chemistry studies. Our soap making supplies had dwindled down to some dried herbs, so I simply ordered this kit.

DeletePlease tell Peter I hope he feels better soon. Dentist visits aren't always fun. Also, please tell him that we enjoyed the holiday letter very much. It's fun hearing about your year :)
