Easter Break/Osterferien

I finished planning all the weeks after Easter for my German 102 course on Moodle now!  I am also caught up with grading the homework of the students.  It is really hard to do all this grading online.  Normally you walk into the classroom and complete all these communicative exercises together.  The students only submit their grammar and interactive work (with an online software) to me and those are not hard to grade.  Now the students have to submit every tiny thing we would do in class orally and in writing.  They also submit audio files, which I need to download, open, listen to, and then record my own audio files with suggestions what they need to practice.  In class, you simply talk to them!  I also graded the first online exam they took.  First their listening comprehension file would not open up for them and we spent 10 minutes writing back and forth to find out why.  Finally, it all worked and they could start the exam.  Again, that is also not so easy to do . . .

Ich habe endlich die Wochen nach Ostern für mein Deutschseminar online fertig.  Ich habe auch alle Hausaufgaben der Studenten korrigiert.  Das ist immer sehr viel, weil jetzt ja alles online ist.  All die Sachen, die man sonst mündlich im Unterricht bespricht, müssen die Studenten aufschreiben und hochladen.  Ich muß sie alle lesen und dann dazu kommentieren, verbessern und benoten.  Dazu kommen auch noch Audioaufnahmen, die ich mache und die Studenten machen und die dann auch immer hoch- und runtergeladen werden (natürlich muß man sie sich auch anhören).  Die erste Klausur, die die Studenten online gemacht haben, habe ich auch schon benotet.  Das war auch nicht so einfach, am Anfang hat der Hörverständnisteil für die Studenten nicht geklappt, wir haben 10 Minuten wie verrückt mit Email hin- und hergeschrieben, bis alles endlich funktionierte und die Studenten anfangen konnten.    

Oh well, I will stop talking about all this because this is only interesting to people that are experiencing similar issues.  So, what else did we do?  We walked to the post office, which is our only outside world contact these days.  Peter sees a few more, when he goes shopping once a week.   

Aber genug davon, das ist ja nur für Leute interessant, die auch so unterrichten müssen und sich mit Moodle auskennen.  Was haben wir sonst gemacht?  Wir waren bei der Post, der einzigen Einrichtung, wo wir andere Menschen sehen, auch wenn es nur die Postbeamtin und/oder der Postbote ist.  Peter kauft mittwochs noch ein und sieht da auch noch ein paar Menschen.

And this is it for today!  This was our last day of college teaching before Easter.  Now we have all these days off until Tuesday.  That is almost a week.  

Das war's für heute!  Heute war unser letzter Collegeunterrichtstag bis Dienstag, also haben wir fast eine Woche unterrichtsfrei.
