Fulham Palace/Fulham Palast

I found a talk that sounded very interesting and was to be held at the old bishop's palace close to Putney.  So we all piled into the bus and train (well, Peter came from the north and took a different route) to listen to Jim Dimond's talk "Preserving the Palace."  He is a conservator of paintings and told us all about his work, especially connected to paintings from Fulham Palace.  It was a marvelous talk and we learned a lot.

Before and after the talk we looked around the palace, although there is not much to see right now because of the renovation work going on.  However, I talked to one of the ladies working there, who showed us around a bit and who has lived in Connecticut for a while.  Later on, some of the palace staff approached me and asked me if they could take my picture with this lady while she was showing me important features of the palace.  They are going to use those pictures for a brochure about volunteer work at the palace.  That was a fun experience and we had some good laughs while they were taking the pictures.

Ich habe einen interessanten Vortrag in dem alten Bischofspalast in der Nähe von Putney gefunden.  Also sind wir alle in den Bus und Zug gestiegen (Peter ist anders gefahren, weil er aus dem Norden kam), um uns einen Vortrag von Jim Dimond anzuhören.  Er ist Restaurator alter Gemälde und hat uns viel über seine Arbeit, insbesondere in Verbindung mit dem Fulham Palast, erzählt.  Es war ein faszinierender Vortrag und wir haben viel gelernt.

Vor und nach dem Vortrag haben wir uns den Palast ein wenig angesehen.  Leider kann man im Moment nicht viel sehen, weil das Gebäude renoviert und restauriert wird.  Eine Dame, die dort arbeitet, hat uns herumgeführt.  Sie hat sich gefreut, uns kennenzulernen, weil sie länger in Connecticut gewohnt hat, und es dort sehr mochte.  Später haben andere Angestellte des Palastes mich gefragt, ob sie mich für eine Broschüre mit der ersten Dame fotografieren dürften.  Sie brauchten diese Fotos für die Anwerbung neuer freiwilliger Helfer.  Ich habe zugestimmt und so sind wir wieder durch den Palast gegangen und haben so getan, als ob mir gerade alles erklärt würde.  Dabei sind wir fotografiert worden und haben viel gelacht.  Jetzt bin ich also berühmt geworden.
