Rochester Art Museum/Kunstmuseum in Rochester

MAG

Last Saturday, one day after Peter had returned from Vienna, our family, two other professors, and all the London honors students visited the art museum in Rochester (MAG).  If you do not like art, this post is not for you 😁.

Rochester

The girls and I looked at American art first.  Peter had to look at ancient and medieval art with the students.

Mit den Mädchen habe ich mir erst amerikanische Kunst angeschaut.  Peter mußte sich Kunst des Altertums und Mittelalters mit den Studenten anschauen.

Albert Bierstadt stammte aus Deutschland.

They had a special exhibition on drawings, which we also saw.
Dann gab es eine Sonderausstellung mit Zeichnungen.

Feininger

Turner

Carl Jürgen Detlev Looff aus Bramstedt hat dieses Pferd geschnitzt.

We then went upstairs to join Peter and the students.
Dann sind wir in die obere Etage gegangen, wo Peter und die Studenten waren.

Aus Franken

We ate lunch outside with the students.  There was a lot of art by Tom Otterness.
Wir haben unser Mittagessen draußen mit den Studenten gegessen.  Es gab viel Kunst von Tom Otterness.

It was a good day, but long.
Es war ein langer schöner Tag.

  1. Oh!! So nice to see the Tom Otterness sculptures! We have many here, as you may recall :) They always bring a smile to our faces at the 8th Avenue subway and in Penny Park. I also love the ptarmigan piece, Streeter Blair's snow scene and Genesee Oaks! So many beautiful art pieces!

    1. They are so cute! I did not know they had them in Rochester. The Genesee Oaks show Geneseo and it still looks like that depending on which road to take to enter it. We thought that was amazing. I took pictures of Feininger because my dad likes him so much.

    2. How heartening to hear that Geneseo still looks the same when you take the right road :) I Iooked again at the Feininger and I like how he has the church seemingly appearing from a grey mist surrounded by the blocks of color. Also, the Anna Mary Robertson (Grandma) Moses painting is beautiful! (and Veronika looks like she is walking through a castle.)

    3. True! Geneseo is a very charming town and the area around it is also beautiful. I also thought that the Grandma Moses painting was pretty. And so true about Veronika and the castle image.
