Back to School/Wieder Schule

Our back to school day was very rainy, but the hummingbirds did not mind.

Flora is studying Europe in geography this month.  Here we are looking for bodies of water on a European map.

Flora lernt diesen Monat etwas über Europa in Erdkunde.  Hier suchen wir verschiedene europäische Gewässer.

We are using the Live Education booklet on European geography, but also some other resources, for example these here from Materbooks.  We have a huge German map of Europe and my school atlas, which I used in grade 7, is very helpful.  After all, the bodies of water have not changed much in all those years.

Veronika is doing a main lesson on meteoralogy, but here she is doing some work in biology, including some coloring.

The first European country we are studying in more detail are the Netherlands.  Here, Flora is making a Dutch fish dish for supper.

Smoked salmon with Dutch pickled onions, fresh dill, and lemon juice
Räucherlachs mit holländischen Zwiebeln (Silberzwiebeln), frischem Dill und Zitronensaft

  1. I always love your chalkboard calendar drawings. Your first week back sounds really good especially the meal associated with the area of study. So far Pip's first week back has been a challenge. Out of nine of her lessons she has only been able to log into two of them :-( The school is using a new online system and there have been glitches galore, I hope tomorrow is a better day x

    1. Ah, thanks so much! So far, it is going well, but we have not added ballet, violin, and art to the mix . . . Oh, that is too bad that Pip is having so many problems with the logging in process. Veronika has to upload her homework for her Hebrew class on campus onto Moodle, which is a bid strange because she sees the professor three times a week! For that, she has to write her homework, Peter has to scan it on campus, and then I have to upload it here at home onto Moodle! Crazy world!

  2. The meal looks delicious and I agree that is crazy about Veronika's homework! I find these situations with computers irritating! However, you have had a nice start to the year :) and it's nice to see the hummingbird coming to visit.

    1. Thanks so much, Dorina! Tomorrow comes the test: I have to go onto campus and scan Veronika's homework and then send it to myself so that we can upload it unto Moodle. We use the copy machine on my floor, but it is a very complicated machine. Peter typed me these long explanations on how to scan with it. He is still inTexas. Normally he does the scanning. The hummingbirds are still here, but I bet they will be leaving soon.

New York City hieß früher New Amsterdam.
