Ascension Thursday was our American wedding anniversary. The girls had a card and flowers and cookies for us. We decided to spend the day in Geneseo.
Himmelfahrt war unser amerikanischer Hochzeitstag. Die Mädchen hatten Blumen, Karten und Kekse für uns. Den Tag haben wir in Geneseo verbracht.

We stopped here to buy some flowers.

Then we visited the local history museum.
Dann waren wir im Heimatmuseum.
In North Dansville used to be a German shoe factory.
In dem Norden von Dansville gab es früher eine deutsche Schuhfabrik.

Ein Teil der Eiche, unter der ein wichtiger Vertrag zwischen den Seneca Indianern und der amerikanischen Regierung unterzeichnet wurde.
There was a collection of weapons.
Es gab auch eine Waffensammlung.
Mit dieser Kelle wurde der Sockel für die Freiheitsstatue gebaut.

DeleteHappy Anniversary Eva. The museum is interesting. Can you imagine how they moved the large oak trunk into the building? It's funny to have the trowel that was used to lay the cornerstone of the Statue of Liberty! And the German shoe factory that used to be there . . one million shoes! I think the shoe itself is pretty, and not so different from shoes you can see today.

Thanks so much! The museum has some really good exhibitions and then many rooms that need to be modernized, but they are working on it. I have no idea how they got that trunk into the museum. And it is just a part of the original one. I also thought that the shoe was pretty. The factory is not there anymore, which is sad.

DeleteEuch beiden einen glücklichen Hochzeitstag, wenn auch nachträglich! Bei Euch gibt es immer so schöne Ausflüge zu machen und so tolle Dinge zu sehen. Ich liebe Heimatmuseen, sehr interessant, etwas über die lokale Geschichte der Siedler mit den Indianern zu erfahren. Am liebsten würde ich mit den Kindern "mal kurz" vorbei kommen und alles besuchen, was Du immer postest. :-)
