St. John's Day, or "Burning the Christmas Tree Day," was today and we managed to have our fire. First we thought we could not have it because the weather forecast called for thunderstorms all afternoon and evening long, but around 3:00 p.m., the forecast changed and we did have our fire in the evening after all.
Heute ist Johanni oder auch "Verbrennen des Weihnachtsbaums Tag" und wir haben unser übliches Feuer gemacht. Erst haben wir gedacht, es würde nicht klappen, weil es den ganzen Nachmittag gewittern sollte, aber so gegen 15.00 Uhr hat sich die Wettervorhersage dann doch geändert und wir haben unser Feuer am Abend gemacht.

Natürlich haben wir auch eine St. Johannes Geschichte über die Geburt von Johannes dem Täufer gelesen.
I love these pictures, they were very brave jumping over the fire! We still have our tree in the hopes that we could burn it but not sure whether it would annoy the neighbours! Our garden is a lot smaller than the last house :-)
ReplyDeleteThe jumping has gotten more and more important over the years. When they were little, they did not do this much. We had our first fire in North Carolina with members of the anthroposophical society there. Jonathan was very impressed by the people that jumped over the fire there. He was only 3!
DeleteMaybe if you went over to the neighbors and explained what you are intending to do, they would understand? We always do the fire in the driveway, away from the house and there is not much room there either.
I am sure we could manage something :-). Well done upon completion of the school year, you really are an inspiration in all that you do xx

DeleteHallo Eva, wie schön Euer Johannifest aussieht! Was sind das für Brötchen die Du gemacht hast? Das Bild sieht aus wie eins aus dem Vorhang auf Verlag, kennst Du die Hefte? Bestimmt kennst Du sie. Bei uns ist der Sommer auch angekommen, die ganze nächste Woche über 30 Grad. Ein bisschen übertrieben im Gegensatz zu vorher, aber man will sich ja nicht beschweren. :-)
ReplyDeleteJa, es war ein gutes Feuer dieses Jahr und der Baum war auch trocken genug. Diese Brötchen sind Zwiebel-Parmesan Brötchen. Ich mache sie glutenfrei, weil Jonathan gegen Gluten allergisch ist. Wenn Du willst, suche ich Dir das Rezept heraus. Die Kinder mögen sie sehr.
DeleteDie Karte habe ich hier in der Waldorfschule gekauft. Die Künstlerin ist Ilona Bock. Hier sind noch ein paar Karten von ihr.
"Vorhang Auf" kenne ich auch. Wir haben die Zeitschrift früher bekommen und Miriam ist sogar darin als "Kind aus Amerika" vor einigen Jahren vorgestellt worden.
Ja, da geht ja eine Hitzewelle durchs Land! Dann dürfen wir mit unseren 27 Grad nicht schimpfen, aber 27 Grad ist ja auch noch nicht so heiß für die Gegend hier.
Sehr gerne, Mumpel liebt Zwiebeln und Parmesan, das passt ja vorzüglich. Glutenunverträglichkeit haben wir zum Glück nicht. Trotzdem finde ich eigentlich man kann sich ganz gut behelfen, wir haben eine Zeit lang auch glutenfrei gegessen.
DeleteDie Vorhang Auf Hefte habe ich auch abbestellt weil die Kinder einfach zu groß sind aber wir behalten natürlich alle, ich finde sie so liebevoll gemacht. Ach, welche Ausgabe war das, in der Miriam vorgestellt wird? Vielleicht haben wir die auch in unserem Stapel und haben sie nicht gesehen?
Mumpel war gestern reiten bei 33 Grad in der Halle, danach war sie fix und fertig, das machen wir auch nicht mehr so schnell.
Ich komme bald dazu, das Rezept Dir zu schicken! Ich muß Miriam nach dem Heft fragen, dann sage ich es Dir. Ja, die Hefte sind sehr schön. 33 Grad zum Reiten ist zu heiß. Das ist bestimmt auch zu heiß für das Pferd.

Yes, maybe that would be good idea to invite them! No, no water or sand, but there is not much that can burn nearby. We do cover the burnt out fire with water, though.
DeleteHi! I'm surprised I was able to get the "reply" link to work. It often doesn't for me! I wish we could do a fire . . I don't even think we could do one out at Montauk. Do you need to get a permit from the town? If not, Upstate is very different from downstate :) It's nice to be so rural :) We could make a fire on the beach at Montauk . . I just can't remember the rules and would need to check on it.

DeleteNo, we never get a permit, but I think you are supposed to. Around here, everybody has small fires (burning leaves, etc.). And the men from the fire department are all local friends :).
