Walk?Spaziergang?

This is what happens when Jonathan and Flora are going for a "walk."
So sieht es aus, wenn Jonathan und Flora "spazieren gehen".

They did reach the river, though, and found a huge beaver dam.
Sie haben es jedoch bis zum Fluß geschafft, wo ein riesiger Biberdamm war.

We are all quite busy right now with finishing up the school year, starting to plan the new one, and planning for summer camps and summer activities.

Wir beschäftigen uns im Moment mit dem Abschließen unseres Schuljahres und dem Planen des neuen.  Dazu kommen noch Pläne für Sommerferienlager und Sommeraktivitäten.  

Charlotte had to take the ALEKS math test for Mercyhurst University.  Now she is done with all the main forms and other prerequisites she had to hand in or complete.  However, the dance department also wants to see certain forms, which are different from the other ones, so now we have to tackle those.  When she is not working to make money for a ballet intensive coming up soon and when she is not working on finishing up her last high school subjects, she is driving all over the county with Peter to practice her driving skills.  She cannot drive in the town where she will take her test, though, because that is against the regulations. 

Charlotte mußte einen Matheeinstufungstest für ihre Uni machen.  Jetzt hat sie alle Formulare und Voraussetzungen für die Uni eingereicht oder erfüllt.  Die Abteilung für Tanz will aber auch noch extra Formulare ausgefüllt haben und die müssen wir jetzt in Angriff nehmen.  Wenn sie nicht Geld verdient, um einen  Ballettintensivkurs zu machen, oder die letzten Schulfächer zu Ende macht, fährt sie mit Peter durch den Landkreis, um für den Führerschein zu üben.  Sie darf überall fahren, nur nicht in der Kleinstadt, wo die Prüfung stattfindet.  

  

At dinner time, we are reading the German book The Adventures of Maya the Bee.  I read this book to Jonathan and Charlotte when they were little, but Flora has never heard it.  It is fun to read and hear it again.

Beim Abendbrot lese ich im Moment  Die Biene Maja vor.  Ich habe dieses Buch schon Jonathan und Charlotte vorgelesen, als sie klein waren, aber Flora kennt es noch nicht.  Es macht großen Spaß es wieder zu lesen und zu hören.   

Today is Flag Day in this country.  All schools have special celebrations in New York State.  Our local school had a "patriotic assembly."  We read an appropriate book to know what this day is all about.

Heute feiert man in Amerika "Flaggentag".  Alle Schulen in New York haben ganz besondere Aktivitäten für diesen Tag.  Unsere Schule im nächsten Dorf hatten eine "patriotische Versammlung".  Wir haben ein Bilderbuch über diesen Tag gelesen.  
  


In the summer, I always try to read books about being a better homeschool teacher.  Right now I am going through one of Catherine Levison's books on Charlotte Mason education.

Im Sommer lese ich immer gerne einige Bücher, die mich als Hausschullehrerin weiterbilden.  Im Moment lese ich eines über Charlotte Mason Erziehung.    

Our weekend plans are also taking shape: Peter has to go to a funeral of one of his former colleagues.  He passed away rather suddenly.  There is a Celtic Faire we want to go for and Flora's violin teacher has arranged recitals for all her students on Sunday.  Flora could have also participated, but she feels she is  not ready for it, with being gone for such a long time and no regular lessons.   But we will go and watch all the other students, many of whom we know.  

Wir haben auch schon Pläne für das Wochenende: Peter muß zu einer Beerdigung eines ehemaligen Kollegen, der recht plötzlich gestorben ist.  Es gibt wieder einen Keltentag, zu dem wir gehen wollen, und Floras Geigenlehrerin gibt ein Konzert mit all ihren Schülern.  Flora hätte auch mitmachen können, doch möchte sie lieber noch ein Jahr warten, bis sie daran teilnimmt, weil sie so lange keine Stunden nehmen konnte.  Wir werden aber hingehen und zuhören, wie die anderen Schüler spielen.  Die meisten davon kennen wir.
