Snow/Schnee

The girls have been wishing for a white Christmas and on Friday we did get quite a bit of snow.  But before it started to fall, we were awakened by Lucia and her three maidens and one stjärngossar (star boy).  They sang and served us breakfast in bed.

After a cozy breakfast we all drove up to the Waldorf school for their German Christmas concert.  We were not allowed to take pictures from where we were sitting, but it was so wonderful to hear German Christmas music and poetry, including Knecht Ruprecht.

We had big plans for that day, but first had to go to our eye doctor for appointments for Jonathan and Flora.  Jonathan would like to get contact lenses for dancing and Flora was there to have her eyesight checked because the nurse at out pediatrician's office thought she should see an eye doctor (after she had performed a very simple vision test).  Jonathan had a practice session for putting in contact lenses, but was not successful.  We will go back in January to try again.  Flora's eyes were perfect, and the doctor gave her these sun glasses as a present.

Inspite of these glasses, snow started to fall then.

We picked up shoes at the cobbler's.
Beim Schuster haben wir dann Schuhe abgeholt.

 We had lunch at Taste.
Mittagessen gab es bei Taste.

Flora really liked their gigantic snow flakes.
Flora mochte diese riesigen Schneeflocken sehr.

 Waiting for the food.
Warten aufs Essen

 Snow is picking up.
Der Schnee nimmt zu.

After listening to the weather report and hearing about so many accidents, we then decided that it would be wiser to drive back home and not try to do all those shopping outings we had planned for the rest of the day.

This morning we also had snow here at home.

Fun in the snow!
Spaß im Schnee!

  1. The stars are very pretty!

I can't believe you had so much snow! Chanda will be a bit envious :) She loves the snow. It's good you went home instead. It was very cold her by us. Finally! Of course we aren't used to it so it feels even colder.

Your Santa Lucia celebration looks lovely. It must be nice to hear them sing all together. Seeing your Lüssekat preparations inspired me to make dough and so we baked our Lüssekats yesterday morning. We'll use the rest for sandwiches tomorrow when we go to get our tree.

You must be relieved that Flora's eyes are fine! I wish Jonathan luck with trying the contact lenses again in January. I used to wear them all the time. I'm not sure I can anymore. The last time I tried putting them in, they didn't feel comfortable.

I'm glad you made it to the German concert. I miss my "Christmas in Germany" record that I used to play every year. I need to pick a CD replacement.

Enjoy the snow! I wonder what the rest of the week will bring? I'm sure I saw that it was supposed to be 61 degrees on Thursday!

    1. The snow was really something. It went from nothing to whiteouts very fast. On our way hone, 30 minutes south, again, there was nothing, but it soon caught up with us.

So great you got to bake Lucia goodies! We still have a few left, I think I baked too many.

Oh, yes, we are very relieved that Flora's eyes are fine because there is a slight chance she has a very rare disease that causes nerve damage that leads to bad vision among other thing. We will have to keep an eye on her, though, it might start later in life, when the child enters puberty. She does have some other signs for it, so I do hope that it will not start later (some people never get symptoms, but other people are not so lucky and there is no cure for it.) For now she is fine and that is what is important.

I have never had contact lenses, so I can't help Jonathan with that, but according to Charlotte, he cannot tell some of the girls apart when he dances, not a good thing, so we do need to try again.

What kind of record was that? We do have a CD that is fairly nice and we listen to it a lot.

The snow is almost all gone and it is getting quite warm here too.

    2. I just found the record here and I think I can download it! I'm very excited. I miss hearing this music each year. I also miss looking at the picture on the album cover. It's very pretty.

I'm sorry to hear about Flora's possible rare disease. It must be a bit worrisome for you but I'm sure you think positive and will see how things go. We will keep her in our prayers :)

I wonder how the weather will go this week :) !

    3. I finally had a chance to take a look: This is real music and well sung. You can also buy it as a CD there, can't you?? I would go for that.

Thanks so much, Dorina. I do hope we will find no further symptoms than the ones she has. That would be perfect.

  2. Schnee, Schnee!
