Thursday Work Including Lantern Walk/Donnerstagsarbeit mit Laternenumzug

Veronika made a window decoration out of one of the maple leaves we collected a few weeks ago.  You only need a pretty pressed leaf, wax paper, and cardboard.  Place the leaf between two sheets of wax paper, iron on warm, and glue the wax paper with the leaf between two layers of a cardboard frame.  You can also do this with more than one leaf and choose the shape of the frame accordingly.

Miriam finished her house.  Now it's a play house for all the fairies and gnomes.

Charlotte has drawn a map of Ancient Egypt, written a short essay on the life of a farmer in Ancient Egypt, and now she is decorating her page with hieroglyphics.  We are reading three main books for this main lesson block: The Gift of the RiverThe Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt, and Tales of Ancient Egypt.  Today we also added Pyramid.  Our next project will be the drawing of a pyramid.

Wir lesen drei Hauptbücher für unsere neuen Hauptepoche: Tales of Ancient Egypt, The Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt und  The Gift of the River.

Today was also the day for our lantern walk.  We couldn't do it last week because of the weather, the play, and dear visitors.  We almost didn't do it today either because of an unexpected, heavy snowfall, but we didn't want to put it off another day.  So we went singing through the neighborhood and enjoyed our wintry walk.

  1. Wow, so viel Schnee schon!!

  2. everyone's work is so beautiful: the window decoration, the house, and the map. i can't believe all the snow you have. it looks like all enjoyed it, and had a very special lantern walk. is that your first lantern walk in the snow?!

i'm incredibly impressed with _the gift of the river_. wherever did you find it? do you have suggestions from rainbow or someone else for the books to use with the main lesson block, or do you search your library's catalog and use what it has?

  4. Thank you, Dorina, I don't think we've had a lantern walk in the snow so far. Even around here, snow before Thanksgiving is kind of early.

"The Gift of the River" is from our library, it was recommended on one of the Charlotte Mason lists/sites I'm on. It is different from the Elizabeth Payne book. Many of the Charlotte Mason book recommendations work well with Waldorf ideas in my opinion. Live Ed recommends "Pyramid" and "Tales of Ancient Egypt," but I always need some books with an overview to understand what I'm teaching. I try to choose lively books so I can read them together with the children. Our library system has many of the old good books nobody else has anymore. They haven't really gotten rid of many books around here. So we are very fortunate. There are always good finds and I search their inventory whenever I start a new block. They also put together kits for certain topics. We just reserved one for Ancient Egypt. You get a big bag with CDs, books, DVDs, games, etc. Those are always enriching.
