After our lovely time in Capistrano and Dana Point, Veronika came down with the same stomach bug Flora had had. We put her to bed in our motel. Our Monday was thus very quiet. Veronika could not go to class, and our plans for that day came to nothing. We were actually supposed to fly home late that night, but due to the blizzard at the East Coast, we had to postpone our flight by one day. That was actually a blessing because it enabled us to be there for Veronika. On our last day, Tuesday, we did drive to the coast in the morning.
Before we drove to the coast, we visited Veronika's roof patios. Here is the view from the first patio.
Bevor wir zur Küste gefahren sind, haben wir aber noch Veronikas Dachterrassen besichtigt. Hier ist der Blick von der ersten Dachterrasse.

After supper, we changed into winter clothes and drove to the airport. It was a long flight, via Philadelphia. We arrived around 11 a.m. in Buffalo.
We had to pick up Leo at his "pet resort."
Leo mußten wir dann in seinem "Haustier Resort" abholen.
Of course, it was snowing.
Natürlich hat es geschneit.

Oh my goodness, such different weather! Oh, how I love California :D (I love snow too!) I'm sorry for the illness, but glad you could all be together, and happy that you had a safe trip home. All of you must be a little tired from the journey! Did Leo enjoy his resort? It looked like it was quite full! I'm sure he's much happier to be sleeping on the family couch xoxo
ReplyDeleteThe weather was so nice and that stomach bug was nasty! Nevertheless, we had a wonderful time. We were quite tired, yes. Supposedly, he liked it. They always write an evaluation of the animals, and he did well. But I think he is happy to be home again. I think that "resort" has mostly dogs that are there for daycare.
DeleteRight, I was surprised at all the names, but the majority are probably dogs. It's nice you had a good place to leave him.
DeleteI think they make a huge effort to have a comfortable place for the animals to stay. We do not have many places that take animals when you have to travel. This place is about an hour away, and the prices are reasonable.
DeleteSo good that the prices are reasonable and that it's a nice place. We have a local pet sitting group where they come to our home. It's nice, but it can get a little expensive.
DeleteOh, that must be nice to have pet sitters. We do not have that here.
DeleteWell, they don't stay overnight, but some can come by twice a day if you need it. Sometimes I can trade off with a neighbor who has cats. That's the best, but that hasn't been for awhile as they no longer have cats.
DeleteAh, too bad about the cat-less neighbors!
DeleteAh well ! :)
DeleteP.S. Solana Beach is gorgeous! And the roof patio and swimming pool are both so nice!
ReplyDeleteThat beach is so clean and not crowded at all, just perfect! Veronika is very lucky to have such wonderful accommodations although there is not much time for swimming.
DeleteYes, that's wonderful, though it's nice if she can find some swimming time . . I think swimming is relaxing and healthy. I always feel so good in the summer after a swim. Kendall swims at the Y several times a week.
DeleteShe did swim some more during her last term, but this term is busier and sometimes too cold. I used to go swimming several times a week when I was a university student. That was my way of exercising. We do not have a good swimming pool here. The pool at the college is really cold.
DeleteOh, that's too bad it's so cold! It's nice that you could swim when a student. I sometimes think I should maybe swim here at the Y on a membership, but I really like to swim in the bay . .
DeleteWhen Jonathan and Charlotte were little, we did swim lessons there. However, both of them were so thin, that they turned blue during their lessons. It was way too cold, and the teachers were not very competent. We gave up on those lessons after that experience. Have you ever tried that swimming-pool?
DeleteI've never tried the Y, but I have tried my friend's health spa pool in their apartment building. I don't think it's too much more than the Y either, and it's very nice because it has a retractable roof that allows some fresh air and sunshine in during the summer.
DeleteI remember my swimming lessons being a test of endurance when I was little! They were at a county swimming pool and I was always exhausted and cold afterwards. I remember shivering! Completing each level was a huge accomplishment. I remember that my last level was extra difficult because we were supposed to fetch a weight from the diving pool and I couldn't swim down that far. I still passed, so maybe it was more like extra credit, and I just didn't get the extra! Greg never took a lesson but learned with his mom swimming in the bay where he grew up by the ocean in Florida. He's a pretty good swimmer but doesn't like the cold northern water! We mainly goes in when he visits Florida, and that's when I don't like going in because I find it too uncomfortable and hot! It's not at all refreshing.
Ah, your lessons sound a bit like the ones they offer here. I had swimming lessons in school, and we also had to dive and get out three rings in order to pass. I managed to do that :). The lowest level involved swimming for 15 minutes without stopping or touching the sides of the pool, jumping into the water from a block, and diving into the water to get out those three rings. Unfortunately, none of my children can swim very well. We never had the opportunity to practice much. They did take lessons in California as well, but without being able to swim regularly, you do not learn it. Swimming in Florida sounds wonderful, but is there the danger of sharks? My mother taught my father to swim. My father also does not like cold water. He never had the opportunity to learn because he was born in 1940, when the war was going on.
DeleteYes, my mother never learned well either. In regard to Greg, at that time in Florida, there wasn't a shark problem, but he was also swimming in the estuary inland from the ocean. I'm impressed with your swimming lessons! That was exactly what we had to do also! It's just really important, at least, to know how to swim.
DeleteGood that there were not any sharks! Some of my classmates went on to get the higher awards in swimming, like rescue swimming, but I never did. I did jump from a 5 meter tower, though, and that was quite an accomplishment. I also took swimming in high school as one of my P.E. classes. I enjoyed it quite a bit.
DeleteYes! That is impressive :) You sound like a very strong swimmer!
DeleteI guess I am out of practice now, but when we go swimming in the lake in the summer, I can still swim for a long time. I remember going swimming when I was very pregnant with Jonathan, and I just could not do it! I got out of breath right away. I was so disappointed.
DeleteI remember something similar when very pregnant with Korrina. My longitudinal muscles gave out (as explained to me by my midwife) and I could no longer stand. I had to keep my feet up for a couple of weeks. I guess I was doing too much walking around the city . .
DeleteOh, that sounds aggravating! Good your midwife had an explanation.
DeleteOh! The avocados! How I miss California avocados! (These beach photos are so beautiful.)
ReplyDeleteI agree! When we were at Biola, there was a graduate student who had an avocado tree in her back yard. She always shared her avocados and they were so good! Nothing like the ones you get in the stores.
DeleteThat's a nice memory :)
