Flora turned 16 today!
Flora ist heute 16 Jahre alt geworden!
She had asked for fresh green beans, roasted potatoes, and chicken for lunch.
Sie wollte frische grüne Bohnen, gebackene Kartoffeln und Huhn zum Mittagessen.
Then there was a surprise trip for her.
Dann gab es einen Überraschungsausflug für sie.
We drove into a thunder storm. (That was not the surprise.)
Wir sind in ein Gewitter gefahren. (Das war nicht die Überraschung.)
She had asked for "real" earrings (a.k.a. getting her ears pierced).
Sie wollte so gerne "echte" Ohrringe (also Ohrlöcher gestochen haben).
She is very happy.
Sie ist sehr glücklich.
Back home, there was a raspberry cake, which Veronika had made.
Veronika hat ihr eine Himbeertorte gebacken.
"Hoch soll sie leben!"
Time for presents with Wasi 😊. Wasi was a birthday present from my Aunt Erika (Flora's great-aunt) many years ago. Since my aunt has passed away, Flora thought it would be good to have Wasi there to remind us of all the wonderful presents Erika had given each of our children over the years.
Zeit für die Geschenke und zwar mit Wasi 😊. Flora hat Wasi vor vielen Jahren von meiner Tante Erika zum Geburtstag bekommen. Da Erika ja nun verstorben ist, fand Flora es passend, Wasi bei diesem Geburtstag dabei zu haben. Er sollte uns an all die lieben Gaben erinnern, die Erika den Kindern viele Jahre lang geschickt hat.

Our neighbor sewed this jacket for her.
Unsere Nachbarin hat ihr diese Jacke genäht.
Jonathan called and gave us a tour of his walk from his law firm to the subway. We got to see the Empire State Building and 5th Avenue. Later he called again to congratulate Flora properly and talk a bit.
Jonathan hat angerufen und ein Video von seinem Weg von der Anwaltskanzlei zur U-Bahnstation gemacht. Wir haben das Empire State Building und 5th Avenue gesehen. Als er dann in seinem Wohnheim angekommen war, hat er wieder angerufen, um richtig zu gratulieren und ein bißchen zu schwatzen.

Und was haben die Tiere gemacht?
Leo was watching a squirrel.
Leo hat ein Eichhörnchen beobachtet.
And the hummingbirds came to drink from our feeder.
Und die Kolibris sind zum Trinken gekommen.
Charlotte und Flora sind sehr früh spazieren gegangen (bevor Charlotte zur Arbeit mußte) und sie haben eine Füchsin mit drei kleinen Jungen gesehen!
Miriam and I are doing much better today, which is a relief.
Miriam und mir geht es heute viel besser, was eine große Erleichterung ist.
And I thought I would close today with Flora's famous peanut butter video from 2010. I guess she did get bigger.

Herzlichen Glückwunsch, Flora. Das sieht ja nach einem tollen Geburtstag aus. Ihr feiert immer so schön. Das Essen hätte mir auch gefallen.
ReplyDeleteGanz lieben Dank! Ja, wir waren so froh, daß wir feiern konnten, obwohl wir ja nicht alle ganz gesund waren. Ich bin mit solchen Geburtstagen aufgewachsen und habe das auch bei meinen Kindern beibehalten. Das ist ihnen auch sehr wichtig: Geschenke, Blumen, Geburtstagsessen und Geburtstagskuchen. Mein Essen war sehr einfach, aber doch lecker.

DeleteJa, wir haben zwar zum Geburtstag Geschenke bekommen, aber Feiern waren bei uns nicht drin.
Als ich das Video zuerst hochgeladen habe, also vor vielen Jahren, waren meine Eltern ganz hin und weg :). Es ist zu lustig, besonders, weil sie davor nie wirklich von "peanutbutter" geredet hatte und überhaupt kein Englisch gesprochen hatte. Was da in ihrem Kopf vor sich gegangen ist, wissen wir bis heute nicht. Am Ende sagt sie aber "Hund weg!" Ich glaube, sie hat das Bild eines Hundes in dem Buch gesucht. Schade, daß bei Euch nie so richtig Geburtstag gefeiert worden ist. Das war in meiner Familie immer sehr wichtig.

You might feel "little" but the number says you have surely moved ahead! Wasi is very cute (as are the old photos and the peanut butter movie!). What a lovely celebration and Veronika's cake looks delicious. How fun to have seen the foxes in the morning . .
ReplyDeleteYes, 16 sounds much older. She could start driving! But we always waited until our children were at least 17. She could even get married (with our permission). That is hard to believe. She had a wonderful day with good food, love, presents, and phone calls. We managed to get a picture of one fox. I just posted it :).

DeleteOh . . :( there must not be enough rabbits, squirrels, birds and mice for them . . ? I didn't think fawns were normally in their diet . . ? They also eat carrion.
DeleteI am not sure. Charlotte saw it through the window, but it was dark. There are plenty of rabbits, squirrels, cats, mice, rats, dogs, etc.
Delete!! Greg sometimes likes to say to me "it's Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom out there." It was a popular tv show from the 60's.

DeleteOh my goodness baby Flora is just the sweetest!!! I’m pretty sure you shared in ‘real time’ too as I seem to remember it! She also had a liking for Weleda Boxes if my memory serves me right 🙂. Happiest of Birth-Days to you both the day sounded just right, a mix of presents, good food, a birthday trip and family both near, far and in our hearts 🩷. Flora has Wasi and Pip has Wilbur who is hugged to death, looking very dog eared and could do with a wash, but woe betide mum if he ends up in the washing machine 😂😂 xx
ReplyDeleteYes, I did share that when I made the video. Oh, that is true about those Weleda boxes. I had forgotten that :). Yes, it was a good birthday and I felt well enough to drive to the place that does the ear piercing with Peter and Veronika. It was just a 35 minute car ride. Oh, so true, don't put those animals into the washing machine (at least not when the child is watching)! When Flora was older, I did wash Wasi, though.
