Animal Classification Game/Tiergruppen Spiel

Flora and I played this animal game this afternoon after my German teaching and her art class.  Veronika met with my advanced German student to read German books.  Charlotte taught at the Academy, but did not meet with her homeschool family (she tutors the one girl there) because they were sick.  In the evening, we did not go to our Wednesday Mass, but to a talk on the war in Gaza on campus put on by professors.  When we came back home, Veronika and I started a new book (we finished the Hamlet DVD): The Hound of the Baskervilles (paid link).  I also got the good news of the birth of a new niece: My sister Isa and her husband Robert had a little baby girl last night.

  1. Congratulations on your new little niece, Eva. The game looks fun, and does Veronika enjoy Sherlock Holmes? I used to read many of the stories and Korrina did too.
A talk on Gaza . . I'm so distressed about the whole situation. It's horrible. As you once wrote to me . . there's just too much suffering.

    1. Hard to believe that my sister is having children now and we are already past the childbearing age. But I am so happy for her. Jette looks so cute; she reminded us of Jonathan, which makes no sense, but she does. I think Veronika likes the book so far. The game is part of one of our science books we are using this year.

Yes, the situation is awful, no doubt. It was interesting to hear about the history of Israel, about Hammas and their deep-rooted anti-Semitism, about different forms of government that have existed in that area, about the media and whom to believe, about Christians in the area, and about the fact that many of the peoples (I am using the plural on purpose) in that area have a very different way of life, culture, and thinking from people in western countries. Several of the speakers have visited the area and are familiar with the situation first-hand. And as in all wars, the ordinary people get caught in the middle of all the violence.

    2. It sounds like a very interesting and informative talk. It's good that it was offered. I've been reading also, and find it very complicated as most situations are . . so many views to see . .

    3. It was also interesting to hear about sources of information some of the speakers use. Some read "Jerusalem Times" and some Arab newspapers (I cannot remember the names). Some thought that "The Atlantic" was a good source. We also had people there who had lived in Israel. And many agreed that most mainstream news reports should not be believed right away, but one should wait about a week to see if the reports would change or would be verified.
