Jonathan
Jonathan has moved into his dorm and is busy doing orientation this week together with the other law school students. He is sharing a unit with two other students. They also have a kitchen.
Jonathan ist in sein Studentenwohnheim gezogen und hat diese Woche Jura Orientierung. Nächste Woche beginnt sein Semester. Seine "Wohnung" teilt er mit zwei anderen Studenten. Sie haben auch eine Küche.
Miriam is all packed and ready to go tomorrow. We are happy for her to begin a new chapter of her life. She had to drive to Olean with Peter to get a physical so that she can keep working with the organization that takes of elderly people in their homes. The couple she used to work for has only the wife left. Her husband died a few months ago, right after turning 100! The physical took only two minutes, but the waiting time was almost 2 hours!
Miriam hat gepackt und morgen kann es losgehen. Wir freuen uns mit ihr, daß ein neuer Lebensabschnitt anfängt. Heute mußte sie mit Peter nach Olean fahren, um ein Gesundheitsattest zu bekommen, damit sie in den Semesterferien weiter für die Organisation arbeiten kann, die sich um alte Leute kümmert. Von dem Ehepaar, für das sie gearbeitet hat, ist nur noch die Frau übrig. Ihr Mann ist vor einigen Monaten gestorben, kurz nachdem er 100 geworden ist! Die Untersuchung hat nur 2 Minuten gedauert, aber die Wartezeit war fast 2 Stunden!
I adjusted my syllabus for German 101 and printed out some papers I want to use in my first class on Monday. I also checked my classroom for next semester and discovered that the computer in the room was not connected. I need it for my first class and was pretty annoyed. I sent an urgent e-mail to the Helpdesk and hope that they will be able to fix it by Monday afternoon.
Ich habe den Lehrplan für meinen Anfängerkurs in Deutsch fertig bekommen und heute auf dem Campus ein paar Papiere ausgedruckt, die ich gerne in der ersten Deutschstunde benutze. Ich habe auch einen Blick in meinen Seminarraum für das Semester geworfen und festgestellt, daß der Computer nicht angeschlossen ist. Das finde ich sehr ärgerlich, weil ich ihn immer in der ersten Stunde brauche. Ich habe eine Email an die Computerleute auf dem Campus geschickt und hoffe, daß sie das noch vor Unterrichtsbeginn am Montagnachmittag richtig machen können.

It's good Miriam can continue with the elderly couple. I'm sure the woman appreciates having her help, especially after losing her husband such a short while ago. He lived a long time.
Have fun seeing Miriam off to school. I'll be thinking of all of you. I know you will miss her, but will enjoy hearing about her new adventures! xoxo
I think it is a very nice dorm, not the typical dorm setting students normally experience. We sometimes begin in September and sometimes in August, but this year it is the last week of August. Yes, he really lived a long time and died peacefully. I am not sure in what conidition she is in and if she knows that her husband is gone, but she is still able to live at home. We are in NH right now, after a very long drive! I had to think of you when we passed Sturbridge.
DeleteMy sister has been missing our times at Sturbridge and would like to visit again . it would be nice to go but I think I would miss having the girls along very much.

ReplyDeleteJa, am Sonntag war ich dann da und habe ihn wieder ausprobiert und dann ging er. Ja, Jonathan wohnt in einem Studentenwohnheim für Juristen und teilt sich eine Küche und ein Bad mit zwei anderen Studenten.
