Critters/Tierlein

Well, I guess after such nice weather on the first day of summer, we needed some rain today.  This day started out with hummingbirds coming to the feeder and Julius bringing a baby bunny for breakfast.  Jonathan and Charlotte had just left, it was about 7.00 a.m., and what do you do?  We put it into a box and gave it some water.  I knew there was a rehabilitation lady in the area, but could not find her contact information anymore.  Peter has taken quite a few bunnies to her; all of them "played with" by Julius.  However, I had never been to her house.  I e-mailed our home ecology teacher if he knew her address and he did!  So I sent her an e-mail and she told me to bring by the bunny.  I put bunny and three children into the car after I had cleaned up the mess that Kai had made in the children's bedroom: He must have had eaten something that did not agree with him because I found it on the floor.  Well, we drove through the backwoods of Western New York for 30 minutes on dirt roads until we finally came to our destination.  The lady was happy to take the bunny and said she would start it on antibiotics right away.  Julius had left some teeth marks on its neck.  Then we made our way back home and tried to get into some kind of rhythm again, but that did not last so long.  In the afternoon, I had to make copies on campus of our papers for the local school district and then rush to the post office (they close at 3:45 p.m. every day now) to mail it all.  The postmaster told me, when she saw my envelope, that the superintendent of the school is going to take a different position soon and that we would get a new one.  The post office is always a good place for the latest news!

Was macht man da?

 So small and cute!
So klein und süß!

In the car, it decided to take a bath.
Im Auto hat das Häschen dann gebadet.

All roads lead to Rome, or to a rehabilitation lady.

  1. Das ist aber schnukelig!

I'm surprised the girls let you give it away.

  2. Hello Eva! Such a stressful beginning to the day! You are so good to take such care of the cats, bunnies and birds . . and the children! Poor little bunny. I think we are funny to love our cats with all the trouble they cause :) Also, it's not so easy driving on dirt roads. It doesn't look too bumpy, but photos can be deceiving . . though it does look like a very pretty road!

You get your local information through the postmaster! I get it through a small westside paper :) It's important for someone to keep track of these things!

    1. No, it was not too bumpy, but it was a gravel road. The biggest problem out there is that there are no street signs or house numbers, it is all pretty rural with almost no people living there, and the maps we have are not always right, either. So you might get lost or at least get very confused.

Oh, there is a county newspaper here too, but we are not subscribers. I think the post office is a better source, anyway :). We have known this postmaster (and some in other villages) for over 16 years now!

  3. Wie geht es dem Häschen? Ist es eigentlich ein Kaninchen? So herzig.

  4. I have to laugh at how the post office is the best source :) It's the same here now with my neighbors . . there's a familiarity that is very comforting.

    1. Yes, it is good to know that people do still share news this way.
