Waiting/Warten

Finally leaving
Endlich fliegt sie.

We are sitting here at home, waiting for Charlotte to board her connecting flight in Newark, NJ.  She was supposed to arrive in NH at 4:00 p.m., but now it is 10:30 p.m. and she still has not even reached New Hampshire!  First, airplane maintenance prevented her from leaving Rochester on time and now bad weather is preventing her to leave Newark on time.  We do hope that her flight won't get canceled and she will be stuck at the airport!

We took her to Rochester early this morning and stayed until 4:30 p.m. to wait for her plane to leave.  She was supposed to leave around 11:00 a.m.  Here are a few pictures from the day.

All children, except Flora, are reading Macbeth out loud with assigned parts: Charlotte is flying to a Shakespeare workshop!

Lunch at Wegmans: They had a very good display on grains that grow in the area.  Charlotte had already gone through security and ate at the airport.

Back at the airport: They have small study areas: the girls were coloring, Jonathan was reading some political articles, Peter was reading a book, and I had wisely taken my laptop along to work on my homeschool forms for NYS (IHIPs).

I will post my last pictures from the summer camp week soon.  It has been so hot here!  Two people in the area got killed by lightening, and one of the children from Charlotte's summer camp class had a heatstroke.  Without air-conditioning in most houses around here, life has been very slow.

Update: At 0:47 a.m. we got a phone call that she made it and that her ride had arrived!  A long day!

  1. Hello Eva, yes that is a very long day! I'm glad to hear she made it. I wish her a good time and look forward to hearing about it. Was it first going to be in NY?

We hit a very bad storm coming home and I wonder if it was one of the ones delaying Charlotte. We pulled off the road for a bit to let it pass. We're not home and it's very hot. I'd love nothing better than to jump in the pond we were staying on! I ended up cleaning the apartment because there was so much cat hair around and the tub needed unclogging (a chore there wasn't time for before we left). All is well now. The temperature is at 86 and I see it's 75 by you. It looks like we're in for another hot week.

    1. It is in New York, but she is visiting The Thomas More College of Liberal Arts first. They are the people who are organizing the workshop. She was picked up by one of the admission counselors. He was here a few years ago and has talked to Peter and Jonathan, so we have met him before. Somebody from the college will drive her and some other girls to the workshop in NYS. Today, they will drive into Maine. After the workshop, she will go back to the college and fly back to here. This was the easiest way for us to get her there. Peter had some frequent flyer miles . . .

I am sorry to hear about the dirty apartment. Was it dirty when you arrived? Are you at your sister's now? Yes, it does look like it is going to be hot again.

I am glad you waited out the storm! We had a heavy downpour here too.

    2. We may go to my sister's this weekend. It was inevitable that the apartment would be a bit "hairy" and messy from the cats being mostly on their own for the week. We had someone look in on them and stay for awhile, but I didn't expect her to clean like we do. Also, she was sick for half the time, unfortunately.

Thomas More looks very nice! Has she been enjoying the workshop? It's great that Peter had some frequent flyer miles.

    3. I hope the cats didn't miss you too much! Julius is always glad when we get back.

Yes, I just talked to her on the phone. She really liked the workshop. It was a very good fit for her. She will be coming back tomorrow.

    1. Yes, we were quite exhausted by the whole process ourselves. She is enjoying herself quite a bit.

  4. I was looking at you sidebar, updated for me, and noticed how much Veronika looks like my ten year old daughter! Their birthdays are close as well. I'm catching on your blog, and will try to begin blogging more regularly again. Glad you are well.
