Shh!/Pssst!

I am sitting here grading my students' textbooks (our books are textbooks and workbooks all in one).  We had an exam today and during the exam I collect their books and correct mistakes.  However, the exam period is not long enough to finish them all (65 minutes), so I have to take them home.  The students need them back by tomorrow though, because they have to do some homework for Monday with their books.

I am kind of tired because I stayed up until 2:00 a.m. last night, writing an exam for today.  I cannot really prepare my classes or exams when the children are still awake, so I always do that at night.  Last night was especially late because I had to grade some culture worksheets and return them today.  With Peter gone there is even more work than I usually have to do and that means later bedtimes for me.  I must have looked quite fresh, though, because a collegue stopped at my office today complimenting me on how healthy and good I looked (that was not the only reason he stopped by).

What else?  We have been reading some great picture books recently, all about the Ancient Greeks.  And then we came across a very, very funny and quirky book called Shh!  We Have a Plan!  This is simply wonderful; the drawings, the colors, the story.  The whole family likes it a lot.  Below is a video where you can get a glimpse of the book.

Was sonst noch?

We are also reading Cinnebar with the three younger girls, the story of a fox at the time of George Washington.

And Peter is using our membership to the Huntington to take a walk.  It has not expired and so he got in for free.  He had dinner with Pepperdine people at the Malibu Pier last night, overlooking the ocean.  He sent us lots of pictures.  Kind of funny when he sends those because all places are so familiar to us.  He even stopped to visit the San Gabriel Mission.  He is coming home tomorrow and will have quite the temperature shock: It snowed again here, but he is getting sunburned at the ocean because of all his time outdoors.

    1. I think the author is Irish, so they should have his books in your part of the world too.

I did get some more sleep, but it never seems to be enough. Peter is coming down with the flu, so I guess there will be less sleep again for me. I always have to think of you then . . .

  3. I hope Peter is feeling better soon and that you don't get sick. The personal movies are finally working again on my Safari browser so I got to see Malibu and the sunset over the Pacific. So pretty!! All of you could sure use some sunshine . . Sending healthy thoughts your way . xoxo

    1. He was up again today, but went to bed really early (and slept in this morning). He is not his usual self yet. Yes, some sunshine would be good! Miriam was feeling worse today and then she dropped a chair on her toes. She was lying on the couch all afternoon and was really miserable. Tomorrow is her ballet observation class. I don't think she will be able to go at all. She was so happy that she was feeling better and now this.
