GBBC and Ballet/Vögelzählen und Ballett

Yesterday, the  Great Backyard Bird Count Started.  Last year, we counted in a L.A. suburb and didn't get so many birds, but those birds we got were very different from what we get here.  Only Veronika counted yesterday because Miriam was sick in bed with a high fever and Jonathan had his American politics class on campus and later ballet.  Charlotte helped Veronika a bit, but later also had to run to ballet.  It was ballet observation day for the parents.  This was the first time I did not go because Miriam was so sick.  So Flora was our photographer.  She took pictures of Veronika's class and also of Jonathan's and Charlotte's class.  She only stayed for 20 minutes during Jonathan's and Charlotte's class, though, because then Peter, who also stopped by briefly, took Veronika and Flora home.  So we only have barre pictures of Jonathan and Charlotte.  And Flora also took the bird pictures!

And as of today, we have three children in bed with a high fever: Miriam, Veronika, and Flora.  Outside it is cold, cold: -2 degrees, with the windchill. it is -23, so better not to go out (not that we could anyway).  Peter has to interview 60 perspective honors students today.  Hopefully he will manage.  His fever is gone, but he is still not feeling well.

    1. I am in complete denial myself. And now there are four children with fevers well over 39 C: Jonathan has joined his other three sisters. Only Charlotte and I are still standing. It all came so fast, yesterday, they were dancing (except Miriam, who was already sick), and now they are running high fevers and are coughing again.

    2. Oh Eva . . Chanda has been sick all day with a high fever also. But you've had too much already this winter. I hope you are all well again soon. It's much too cold by you! You need warm weather and sunshine. Maybe CA is looking good, though it's now too hot there! There's no perfect place. Tell Flora that I love her pics :) And did they paint the walls of the studio a different color?

    3. Yes, that is what we need, some sunshine and warmth. I do hope that Chanda will recover soon. This is how ours started, out of the blue a high fever, very odd. Yes, the previous owner painted those walls. I think it is hideous and not very inviting. They used to be just white/yellow.

    4. How are all of you doing? And that boiler?????? Today is warmer but it was so cold on Sunday.

    5. We got about a foot of snow over night, it is still snowing. Schools, ballet, and church, are all canceled because of the weather. Jonathan, Miriam, Veronika, and Flora are still sick, but no fevers anymore. They are starting to cough, now though. I am seeing the same pattern as we had before when it turned to pneumonia. Charlotte and I are still healthy and Peter is feeling better. Oh, did I write "boiler"?? I meant "broiler"! No, the boiler is still working, it is fairly new! The broiler is not working. Many communities around us are without power, we are still lucky. I will order cod liver oil now and hope that that will really help the children. This illness is just ridiculous.

    6. Yes, I hope it does help. I took some cod liver oil for a little while but then switched to just vitamin D3 drops as I was feeling a little too sad . . I think I was getting too much Vitamin A. I'm feeling much better now. I picked up Carlsen's Vitamin D3 drops from the health food store. I took about half of the cod liver oil. It was very energizing but difficult to swallow. I always took a handful of arugula or baby kale to chase it down. The bitterness of the greens helped with the taste of the cod liver oil. It should really help.

Our broiler works but not the lower oven coil! I am so relieved that your boiler is okay! This must feel like the long winter to you . . Please tell Flora that I love the ballet movies she took. Veronika is adorable and Charlotte has lovely arms. Jonathan is looking tall and long limbed :) Did you finally find good tights?

    7. I cannot digest vitamin D3 on its own. I get horrible pains, strange, isn't it? I think cod liver oil is sometimes hard to digest, but I never thought it was hard to swallow. I guess I don't mind the fish taste.

Oh, I thought your broiler was broken. Yes, this winter is taking too long, but I know I have to be patient for it to end. I will tell Flora that you liked her videos. And I gave your compliments to Jonathan and Charlotte. We did find some white tights for Jonathan, but they were not perfect. We will have to get new black ones for him now, though. I think we will use M. Stevens ones for those. Their white ones are not so good, but the black ones are great.

  2. Oh nein, schon wieder krank...
