Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception/Hochfest der Unbefleckten Empfängnis

"The Immaculate Conception" by Bartolome Esteban Murillo (1618-1682), oil on canvas, 1678.

To celebrate this day we went to our local nursing home for Mass with Father D. The old people are always happy to see some younger ones! The nursing home is just up the hill so we took a walk there. It was very cold, but sunny with a beautiful blue sky.  The fresh air felt very good.  Alecia has a made a coloring page for this day.  You can find it here.

My children always remind me on Holy Days of Obligation that they are not supposed to do their normal school work. So we worked on finishing our Christmas presents instead. I have caught a cold and took a long nap while Flora was taking her regular nap. All the other children cleaned up the kitchen from lunch including washing the dishes! That was very helpful.

Yesterday, Miriam and I worked on reciting Genesis 1:1 in Hebrew. I will post some sources for that later. Charlotte finished her pyramid. Jonathan watched a DVD on sacred geometry and the Cathedral of Chartres. I watched it with him and found it highly interesting. In the afternoon we all went to our local Christmas craft fair. This is an important social event in town. We met many people and saw many fine crafts. Santa was also at our college bookstore. All the children had their picture taken with him: for free!

No pictures today, my words have to be enough. Keine Fotos heute, meine kleine Zusammenfassung muß ausreichen.

  1. hello eva, it sounds like a lovely day. how nice to be able to walk to the nursing home. it was cold here also.

with all the performances happening, we haven't been doing much schoolwork either. morgana is more diligent than chanda. korrina had classes in the evening, so she did some writing this past week. the chartres book looks very good! thanks for sharing.

feel better. i'm glad you were able to lie down and take a nap. and it always feels good when the children help at such times :)

  2. Hello Dorina, thanks for your kind words. We woke up with snow today! We even heard the snowplow!

We didn't read the Chartres book, but only watched the DVD. It even mentioned Rudolf Steiner towards the end. I think there is a book with the same title, published by Floris, on which the film is based.
