Today Prince Divider and Mul de Plier met and helped the poor people in Urland.  So we had a lot of mulitipli-cation and division to do.  We also got out some of our favorite manipulatives: Wrap-Ups!  You have to wrap a string from the problem on the left to the answer on the right.  Then you turn the Wrap-Up over and see if your answers were correct by comparing the pattern your string made with an answer key on the back of the Wrap-Up.  Wrap-Ups come for many subjects, e.g. music theory, vocabulary, geography.  They are easy to use and easy to take along.  

Charlotte is working her way through the great living geography resource Simply Stated.  It lists all the American states and gives picture book suggestions for all of them focusing on one or several main themes that are characteristic for that state, e.g. lighthouses for Maine.  Right now Charlotte is reading about Idaho.  The book for today was Mailing May.  Charlotte read it to Miriam and Veronika.  It was quite funny and they had to laugh a lot. 






Jonathan recited "The Lake Isle of Innisfree" by W.B. Yeats today.  We do memorization of poems regularly and have several selections we use for that.  We really like Laura Berquist's The Harp and Laurel Wreath.  

Kiltartan Road has a wonderful music CD featuring Yeats's poetry.  It's called In the Deep Heart's Core.  Here's a link where you can listen to "The Lake Isle of Innisfree."

Flora helped me in the kitchen making salad.  She loves to help with whatever we do.

Heute haben Prinz Divider und Mul de Plier sich kennengelernt und zusammen den Menschen in Urland geholfen.  Daher haben wir viel mulitpliziert und dividiert.  Wir haben auch unsere "Wrap-Ups" herausgeholt: Rechnen zum Anfassen.  Man muß ein Band von der Aufgabe rechts zur Lösung links wickeln.  Das ergibt dann ein Muster, welches man auf der Rückseite mit einem Lösungsmuster vergleichen muß.  Diese "Wrap-Ups" gibt es auch für andere Fächer, wie Notenlehre, Wortschatz und Erdkunde.  Sie sind sehr benutzerfreundlich und man kann sie überall mit hinnehmen. 

Charlotte liest im Moment für Erdkunde Bilderbücher zu den verschiedenen amerikanischen Staaten.  Es gibt ein sehr schönes Buch Simply Stated, welches Literaturvorschläge für alle amerikanische Staaten hat.  Für jeden Staat gibt es einige charakteristische Themen, z. B. Leuchttürme für Maine, von denen die Bücher handeln.  Charlotte liest im Moment Bilderbücher über Idaho.  Heute hat sie Mailing May Veronika und Miriam vorgelesen.  Es war sehr lustig und alle haben viel gelacht.

Yeats aufgesagt.  Hier ist eine deutsche Übersetzung und hier eine Vertonung von Kiltartan Road auf ihrer CD In the Deep Heart's Core.  Wir lernen viele Gedichte auswendig und haben viele schöne Gedichtsammlungen.  Eine, die uns besonders gut gefällt, ist die von Laura Berquist The Harp and Laurel Wreath. 

Flora hat mir dann beim Salatrupfen geholfen.  Sie ist inzwischen eine begeisterte Helferin geworden.
