Wilson, Kansas

I had intended to blog about the next stretch of the trip (Kansas-Missouri), but it is too late already. Here are just a few pictures from Wilson, where we stayed in this neat old hotel.

The "lounge": Veronika is studying local magazines.
Das Lesezimmer Veronika liest die lokalen Zeitschriften.

The breakfast buffet: There was a continental breakfast arranged beautifully.  Here is a bit more about it.

Breakfast room: Real table-cloths and silverware, cloth napkins, real china, and friendly people.  This was much more like a German hotel.

Wilson has had many German speaking settlers.

Beautiful wooden doors with real key holes!
Wunderschöne alte Holztüren!

The area around Wilson is a sunflower producing area.  (The main electric company used the sunflower in its name.)

The old Czech Opera House burned down in 2009.  They are trying to raise money to renovate it.

There are still tracks in front of the hotel and

freight trains go by.
Güterzüge fahren vorbei.

The old water tower used to be water tower and prison at the same time.

On we go to Atchison, Kansas.
Weiter geht's nach Atchison in Kansas.

  2. I pray your dental work goes well today and isn't too painful! Thinking about you!

I do enjoy old, real hotels! Thank you for sharing. Also, Wilson looks like an interesting town! Did you plan to stay over there because of its interesting features or did you get lucky?

    Love,
    Barbara

    1. No dental work, the dentist is very sick, I hope I can go in on Monday.

Peter had arranged this stay, I was very skeptical because this hotel was not in our AAA book for Kansas. Also, we drove through the middle of nowhere to get there. And it was already late and dark. But he kept telling me that the place would be fine. And he was right :)!!! I guess I should trust my husband more.

    1. Pure accident, Peter found it online. It is not in the AAA book. Normally we find places to stay in there. There is nothing in Kansas, but then there is also nothing in Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and many parts of Colorado. I always thought that there was nothing where we live in NY, but now I know we live in a densely populated area :).
