I am way behind here, but I have been occupied with my family, Jonathan's visit (his suitcase never made it to Germany), my father's health concerns (please pray for return of good health!), and doing a lot of cleaning and yard work at my parents' house. Today, I also had to finish grading my students' work, calculate their final grades, and hand them in. Peter is sitting here, still grading some of his students' work. Yesterday, we traveled per train to Vienna, where we will stay a few days. We did meet some of my distant relatives in Lüneburg on May 7th. We went there by train and enjoyed our time. Jonathan is back at Harvard and I will try to upload my remaining German pictures before moving on to Austrian ones.
Leider komme ich hier auf dem Blog nicht viel zum Schreiben. Ich habe viel mit meiner Familie gemacht, Jonathan war zu Besuch (sein Koffer ist nie in Deutschland angekommen), und ich habe sehr viel in meinem Elternhaus geputzt und im Garten gearbeitet. Leider hat mein Vater in den letzten Wochen auch Gesundheitsprobleme (Gebete für eine Genesung wären sehr schön!) entwickelt, die in den Griff bekommen werden müssen. Heute mußte ich die Arbeit meiner Studenten zu Ende benoten und ihre Abschlußnoten berechnen. Die Noten müssen heute abgegeben werden. Peter sitzt mir hier gegenüber und arbeitet noch an seinen. "hier" ist inzwischen Wien, wo wir gestern mit dem Zug hingefahren sind. Wir bleiben hier ein paar Tage. In Deutschland sind wir u.a. nach Lüneburg per Zug gefahren, um entfernte Verwandte zu treffen. Jonathan ist schon wieder bei Harvard, sein Koffer ist nicht aufzutreiben, doch versuche ich meine letzten Deutschlandfotos hier hochzuladen, bevor man österreichische zu sehen bekommt.

Such a pretty town and the organ is amazing! I would love to ring those bells too! So nice to hear them. You've had a lot to do Eva! I'm glad you were able to finish the grading and also to visit family in Lüneburg :) Jonathan is graduating soon?! That's wonderful. I hope his suitcase arrived before he had to return. ReplyDeleteYes, this is a popular tourist spot and that organ is truly a marvel. Those bells were old bells, but you were allowed to try them out. Yes, Jonathan is done with his law degree (there is still the bar exam, though). We will attend his graduation. No, the suitcase is still lost. Thanks for your prayers, Dorina. He is not doing so well and I felt very sad leaving him behind like this.

DeleteSupposedly his suitcase will be sent back to Boston. He got an e-mail that it arrived in Hamburg after he had left already. We will see if he actually gets it back. Yes, it is amazing that my "little boy" will graduate with a law degree from Harvard. Who would have ever thought that when we started out with our homeschool journey. Yes, communication is easier, but only in theory when it comes to older people. My father does not use video calls and cannot write so well anymore due to his eyesight. Also, he sleeps a lot, so I never know if I should call.

DeleteGood luck to him with the Bar. Yes, it's true that phones and computers are not the most helpful with the elderly. I still miss having phone conversations with my mom.
DeleteToday, a package with prep books for the bar came in the mail, but Jonathan is in D.C. attending a conference. We are driving to the Boston area on Tuesday.
DeleteP.S. In my family, we never talked much on the phone because it was too expensive. It used to be cheaper to call after 9:00 p.m., but then you are more tired and the conversations tended to be short.

Ja, Lüneburg ist sehr schön, so viel Backsteingotik! Der Koffer ist angeblich auf dem Rückweg nach Boston. Er ist nach seiner Abreise von Deutschland gefunden worden. So etwas ist uns noch nie passiert. Mal sehen, ob er ihn wirklich wiederbekommt.

DeleteEr ist angekommen und Jonathan konnte ihn in Boston beim Flughafen abholen. Ich finde, sie hätten sich wenigstens entschuldigen können, aber das ist nicht passiert.
