Utah-Colorado

We are back home and are trying to unpack all our suitcases and 24 boxes we sent back from California.  So far we are just doing suitcases.  The boxes are all sitting in the living-room.  It is almost more work to unpack than to pack.  Who would have thought that.  The drive back from Indiana to Ohio and Ohio to New York was very unpleasant.  We had rain non-stop and several flood warnings on the way.  We were amazed at how much water could fall in such a short time.  We were also wishing that somebody could collect it and send it to Southern California.  Maybe one day.

Here are pictures from our trip from St. George, Utah, to Grand Junction, Colorado on May 22, Flora's birthday.

  1. (sigh) this country is so vast. your photos are beautiful. flora's too :). how crowded it is here on the east coast, and how open it still is for parts of the inland states. i love the pic of flora and veronika . . their braids . . i miss my girls' braids :)

good luck unpacking! you must all be exhausted and feel a bit out of place, but very happy to be home. put up a pic of julius when you can! we're glad you're back safe and sound after all that rain in the last stage. oh, how i abhor driving through rain storms! welcome home :)

    1. You know, we kept saying the same thing, most states never seemed to end, especially the empty ones, and there is virtually nothing to see except breathtaking scenery. Most exits seemed to lead to nowhere and said "no services" most of the time. All the people seem to be concentrated on the West and East Coasts.

Morgana used to have braids until fairly recent. Has she stopped braiding her hair?

We are exhausted, I also lost a filling on the trip and have another one about to fall out. I went to see the dentist in town today. It was nice to walk into an office where everybody knows you, but also strange. One filling has been fixed, I have to go back next week for the other one.

We have two suitcases left, the boxes are all empty, but not all books have been put away. We really have to get back to our school work also. We are too behind again.

Julius was happy to see us. He has been trying to catch baby rabbits again, at least our neighbor told us so. But the lady who rented our house said he was rally depressed towards the end. I said to Peter it is because he did not hear any German for almost five months :). Thanks for the welcome! Yes, we are in the same time zone again. I still keep checking the weather in Rowland Heights to compare it with here :). I also got you a little Californian present I will mail around your birthday. I bought myself a Starbucks California mug. It looked kind of chic.

    2. Ah, dear Julius. It's good you are together again :)

Thank you for thinking of me in California. I still have your gift sitting on my piano. I'm such a procrastinator. You and Morgana are very good; thoughtful and energetic. Both my sister and my friend Janet were impressed with how Morgana remembered them at Christmas . . they quickly retaliated after her gifts came in!

      No, Morgana doesn't wear braids these days . . at least from the pics I've seen . . and Chanda doesn't either . . :( ah well . . ! C'est la vie :)

    3. Maybe Morgana will wear braids again when she comes back? Charlotte does not really wear them anymore either. And Flora's hair is too unruly to put into braids. After ten minutes in braids she looks completely disheveled.

I will mail the present when the time comes. It is on my desk. I did not know you had a piano. Where????

    1. Yes, those bad habits are getting worse. Must be old age. I still have not adjusted to the time change. It was almost easier to jump ahead those hours suddenly when flying out to California than driving back and doing it slowly. I would have never thought so.

    2. I think driving so many days is just more tiring (driving is tiring!!!), though one may not think so . . and three hours is not so bad . . it's crossing the pond that I think is tough.

    3. Maybe because I have crossed it so many times I don't mind so much anymore. But I felt that this slow time change was kind of hard on me.
