Pomona/San Dimas

Happy Spring!  (Daffodils are on sale here at Trader Joe's!)
Frühlingsanfang!

Yesterday, we spent the day in Claremont and also visited Pomona College.  We met one of Peter's Swiss friends, who teaches at Pomona College.  And we also visited with some friends from back home that moved out here a few years ago.  Ginny and I had our last child with the same midwife :) in NY.  So we toured the campus, met Ginny and her family, and then went home with Peter's friend for dinner.  His wife was also there and we spent a relaxed evening outside eating grilled vegetables and chicken with a Southwest salad.  For dessert we had sherbet with homemade lime curd!  And we drank lemonade made from the lemons that grow in their backyard.  They are ripe right now.

 Very hazy mountains

The snow has almost all melted by now.
Der Schnee auf den Bergen ist inzwischen
fast ganz geschmolzen.

Here on campus the view of the mountains is much nicer.

Today we had Latin in San Dimas.  While Jonathan and Charlotte learned I don't know what (I guess I should ask them what lesson they are covering these days), the rest of us walked to downtown and looked at the shops.  Flora already knows her way around quite well: She knew exactly where to cross the street and where to turn.  After all, Peter takes the children there every other week while I do my skyping.  Today I did not have to skype and so I went along.  After Latin class, there was some playing on the playground with the other homeschooled children that attend Latin.  And then we went back to Pizza Rev for dinner.  Oh, and for lunch we made another Rice Bowl recipe, this time Western African Peanut stew.  Of course we watched the short video on Niger, the country that was featured for this recipe on the Rice Bowl website.

Mountains in San Dimas: Aren't they beautiful?  I love the way they look, like waves.
Dies sind die Berge in San Dimas.  Sie sehen wie Wellen aus.  Wunderschön!

And now I just finished catching up with my one German class, but I still have to do the other one, but that one I will do tomorrow.

  1. Lovely pictures. It is a shame the Internet does not do smell-o-vision for I bet those lemons and lavender smelled divine!

The outdoor mini fire box on the table looked fascinating x

    1. Those lemon and orange blossoms are fantastic! And then there is rosemary all over and of course lavender. So many good scents. Maybe in ten years we will be able to send scents as well.

It was in the middle of the table, surrounded by glass. It was perfect for the evening. It was getting cool and so a fire was just right.

  2. What a lovely day, Eva! Another wonderful trip and a visit with good friends :) How relaxing and healing with all those sweet scents pervading the air! I tell you, how will you come home? Julius will have to call to all of you . . "come home to me . . " What did you think of Pomona College? It looks very pretty.

I have to try the peanut stew! I made Shepherd's pie the other night.

    1. We actually got a picture of him sleeping in the living-room. When we saw it, we all missed him. We do miss him the most of everything back home. I don't know if I could always live here without the regular seasons, but right now, it is simply like paradise (although the thousands! of homeless people in L.A. make you stop and think about this part of the U.S.).

  3. I also really like your daffodil picture. Is that Miriam poking her head through?

  4. Dear Eva, about five years ago, we took a family trip to Pennsylvania at the end of April. We were there for our God son's first communion. And travelled around the area for about three weeks. When we left the Colorado mountains, it was a typical Spring-- meaning it was still basically Winter! But as we made our way East, it got warmer and more Spring-like. However, when we got back home near the end of May, Colorado was in full Spring heading towards Summer! We felt so out of sorts that entire Summer having totally missed our own Spring. I hadn't realized how short our Springs are and how much I would physically miss it! Your story of Spring had me thinking!
    Spring blessings, Barbara

    1. Yes, missing a season can be very strange if you live in an area that has four full seasons. I think when we are back home and fall comes around we will realize that it is nice to have some colder weather once in a while -- although now what we are having in NY this winter and spring.
