Back Home Again/Wieder zu Hause

This little break is over now.  We came back home really late last night.  Peter gave a paper at his conference on Saturday, we picked up Jonathan at TAC, we spent the night in Santa Paula, and then went to church on campus.  After church, we drove back to Santa Barbara to visit the Mission there.  It was such a beautiful visit and I took lots of pictures.  After the visit, we drove one more time down to the ocean to say good-bye.  Jonathan spotted two more new birds.  After the sun had set, we still had to drive all the way back to L.A.  We had been really lucky with the weather up to then, but now it started to pour and the traffic got crazier and crazier coming closer to L.A.  We drove right through downtown and saw Hollywood.

Now it is back to homeschool work and my two German college classes.  I hope I will be able to share some pictures tomorrow.

    1. We were also glad when we saw Chinese signs again :). I found out that tar occurs naturally around Santa Barbara. The Indians used to gather it and use it for medicinal purposes. Did you know that?

    2. No! But that makes sense that they would want to go out and drill it up . . It's just oozing out of the ground! Did you get it on your feet? I remember scraping it off . . and sometimes using nail polish remover. Maybe it occurs more in the summer. Is there an article you read somewhere . . or they mentioned it at the Mission? I think that's really interesting.

    3. No, there was none where we was, but Ventura has those tar pits you can visit, I believe. I read it in one of our guide books. Carpinteria also has them. Here is a short article about it.

  2. It's snowing now, again, by us! Sleeting, I guess. It's doing the same in Houghton. What a winter you are missing!!!!

    1. Yes, I saw the forecast. Not pleasant. Our college is having quite a few flu cases. They told students to stay home for another week in case they were sick. My intermediate student is one of those cases. I am very sorry for her. I will find out tomorrow if I have other sick students.

    2. Well today we had lots of wonderful snow but none in Houghton! They were spared :) My sister wasn't though . . they were right at the border . . Hartford didn't get anything but she had about another three inches. I think we had 4 inches. Montauk supposedly had 7!

    3. That is a lot, seven inches! One of my students told me yesterday that she was just so sick of the snow. She could not stand it any longer. I think the phone service was not working for a while in our area, at least the ballet studio had problems (I am talking about NY). I do had two people sick on Wednesday, but not because of the flu.
