St. Brigid and Candlemas Preparations/St. Brigida von Kildare und Mariä Lichtmeßvorbereitungen

Today is the feast of St. Brigid of Ireland. We read about one of her visions in Stories of the Saints.  Some beautiful books about her are St. Brigid and the Cows and Brigid's Cloak.  

We also made a Candlemas candle for tomorrow. We took the left over stubs from our Christmas tree candles and melted them. Then we poured the hot wax into a dove mold to remind us of the two turtle doves Mary and Joseph brought to the temple when presenting Jesus to Simeon.

The matches hold up the wick./Die Streichhölzer halten den Docht aufrecht.

Heute feiern wir die heilige Brigida von Kildare.  Eine ihrer Visionen haben wir in Heiligenlegenden gelesen.  Andere schöne Bücher über sie sind St. Brigid and the Cows und Brigid's Cloak: An Ancient Irish Story.  Wir haben auch Kerzen für Mariä Lichtmeß gemacht.  Dazu haben wir die Kerzenstümpfe der Weihnachtsbaumkerzen geschmolzen.  Dann haben wir das heiße Wachs in eine Taubenform gegossen, die an die beiden Tauben von Maria und Josef bei der Darstellung des Herrn im Tempel erinnern.
