Presque Isle

Charlotte and I went to Presque Isle after breakfast and checking out of our motel.  It was still raining, but we did not miss this beautiful part of Erie.  We found our way through downtown Erie (five lanes one direction!) and landed on this beautiful sanctuary.  Here are our pictures.

Well, this is the entrance gate to Mercyhurst, which we passed on our way to Presque Isle.  We did not get a chance to take a picture yesterday, so we took one today.

Standing there overlooking Lake Erie I had to think of the fateful Steamboat Erie that sank on  trip close to Buffalo.  It had been built in Erie.  Theodor Fontane wrote a wonderful ballad about this event.

And then it was time to drive back to NY, but first we stopped at St. Patrick Church.  They have life-sized Stations of the Cross, which were carved in Germany, but unfortunately, the church was closed.

When we arrived home, everybody was happy to see us.  Peter had survived our absence, the three remaining girls did a wonderful job with cooking, cleaning, and doing some school work.  And poor Peter had to deal with Julius, who had thrown up on the couch and armchair.  (I got many questions via e-mail how to wash blankets, pillows, and cushions.)  I have to say that I have a wonderful husband and wonderful children.

  1. It must have been quite special just the two of you. I am not surprised that the house was well organised in your absence, especially since you have given them such good training over the years :-) Hope everything goes well for Charlotte xx

    1. We had never done anything like that. It was fun, just a bit too much driving in the rain and dark . . .

Peter had vacuumed and the girls had cleaned the bathrooms. They just did not get to the laundry on Saturday, only on Sunday.

Our friends took the girls to ballet because Charlotte and I had the car, so it all worked out :).

I think we are done with in-person auditions. Now we are doing video auditions for the remaining colleges.

    3. She found out after several months. After comparing the different offers she got, she has decided to go to Mercyhurst and will start in August!
